Parker stays silent for a moment. She sucks in a deep breath and holds it for a long moment before she lets it out slowly. I flick my gaze to the side and watch as she sinks her teeth into her bottom lip. She scrapes them across her tender flesh, and I know she’s upset.

“How many personal days do you have?” I ask.

“I’ve never taken one,” she mutters.

I figured she hadn’t. Reaching across the center console, I wrap my fingers around her hand and give her a squeeze. “Take the day, cupcake. Nobody is going to say shit.”

“At this point, I don’t even know if I’ll have a job to go back to. Considering you challenged my boss and made a spectacle. You embarrassed him.”

“Was I supposed to let him ask you out in front of me?” I growl.

There is silence as I pull into my parking garage. I am ready to take her ass home for even suggesting this shit, but at the same time, I know she’s just stressed. I’m giving her this evening as a pass, but I will not give her the same pass tomorrow.

“No,” she whispers. “I don’t know.”

Shifting my car intoPark, I turn to face her, my hand releasing hers and instead cupping her cheek. Her gaze searches mine, and I smirk. “I don’t give a fuck if you get fired from your job. I have more money than I can spend, and soon it will be half yours.”

“Wells,” she breathes.

I hum and lean forward, my lips touching hers. “I know you have money. It’s yours. I’ll never touch it. I don’t need it, and even if I did, I would work my ass off to make sure we never needed it.”

Sliding my hand from her cheek, I tangle my fingers in the back of her hair and grip her as I press my mouth hard against hers. Every single word is the absolute fucking truth. She is mine, and that means she is mine to take care of. I know exactly how much money she has, what she’s worth, and I don’t want a goddamn penny. To me, her inheritance does not exist.

ChapterThirty-Two

PARKER

I’m shaky. My body is on edge, and I know it’s because I’m in this strange place with this man who I don’t know. This man who stalked me for God knows how long. I don’t know what he knows and doesn’t know about me. Especially considering his mother is my therapist.

I am so embarrassed.

She knows everything up until now about our sex life, even the choking stuff.

God.

I want to crawl into a hole and cry.

Wells doesn’t seem bothered in the slightest. He’s happy just moving around his gorgeous condo, but I can’t enjoy it because I am so stressed out about everything that’s happened today. All day long, it’s been one thing after another.

“You’re watching me, but I can tell that if you don’t speak, you’re going to explode,” he murmurs as he turns around to face me.

He’s in the kitchen, watching me from across his breakfast bar. He arches a brow, his gaze holding mine. He is silent while he waits for me to say something. I don’t know what I’m going to say. I feel a million different things bubbling inside of me, but I don’t know where to go first.

“You stalked me. You know everything about me, and I still know nothing about you. I mean, I know you followed me. You got a key to my condo, and I thought it was sexy, so obviously, something is wrong with me. So fucking wrong.”

Tears fill my eyes, and they start to roll down my cheeks. I didn’t think I had any tears left, but I must have replenished them because they’re falling in streams onto the silk bow at my neck. Wells’s eyes search mine, but he doesn’t speak. Instead, he lifts his glass of amber liquid to his lips and takes a drink.

“Cupcake,” he murmurs. “I’m giving you this night for all this shit,” he says as he lifts his hand and waves it around slightly.

My spine straightens at his words. All thisshit. This isn’t nothing. He is acting as if I’m being a silly, emotional girl. I’m not. What I am is freaking the fuck out. That’s a whole different story. I’m freaking out for a good reason. A damn good reason.

“You could have killed me, and I was stupid enough to think it was sexy. I was a virgin,” I whisper.

He places his glass down on the counter, although I expect him to slam it down, but he doesn’t. He sets it down gently, then moves through the kitchen as he makes his way toward me.

My entire body freezes as he stands in front of me, then wordlessly reaches out, cupping my cheeks with his hands. His eyes focus on mine, unmoving, unwavering. Then he leans forward slightly, his forehead pressing against mine as he closes his eyes and inhales deeply through his nose.

I close my eyes, too, wrap my fingers around his wrists, and inhale slowly, then exhale before he speaks.
