“...can I start?” Maddy asks, like she’s trying not to roll her eyes.

“Yes,” Amelia nods, her eyes bright. “Let’s do this. Forever and ever, till death do us part.”

“Absolutely.” And I kiss Amelia again. I don’t care that everyone’s waiting for us to get started already. Not when Amelia’s smiling up at me like that.

We’ve waited two years. We can wait one kiss longer.

I remember the glorious mess of a life waiting for us on the other side of this kiss, and reluctantly pull away. “I love you,” I murmur softly, for Amelia’s ears only. “I love you so fucking much.”

“Save it for the vows,” Maddy orders.

Amelia laughs up at me, her wide smile mischievous. But for once we follow the rules.

When we take that leap of faith and sayI do, it doesn’t feel like a leap at all. It feels like flying.
