I slammed the planner closed but it was too late.

“DILF alert,” she said with a laugh.

“No,” I scoffed, heart dropping. “It didn’t say DILF. That would be totally inappropriate.”

“Then what did it say?”

“Uh, it said…”

“Mm-hmm?”

Think of something that’s spelled like DILF, Clark.

“It said…”

“Don’t think too hard. You’ll sprain something.”

Oh, I know!

“Dildo!” I blurted.

Shit, that wasnotbetter.

“Dildo alert?” she asked skeptically.

In for a penny, in for a pound? There was no going back now.

“Yep! You really don’t want to see the state of my sex toys.”

Ah god, kill me now before I say more asinine things. My mouth just kept spewing nonsense.

“Clark!” she exclaimed with delight. “You’re so reserved at school. I had no idea you were such a naughty boy! Are you getting one of those themed dildos Paula Goodman sells? I heard Tammy over in the science department got the Enemies-to-Lovers model. Apparently, it has a super-high setting so it feels like hate sex.”

I shuddered. That was an image I’d never get out of my head now. But it served my lie. “Uh, yep. Totally grabbing that DILF edition. I mean, we can’t have that in real life, so might as well fantasize, right? Hah!”

Maisie tilted her head. “Well, I don’t know. I’d take me some real-life DILF. Like that fine-ass man hovering in the hall right now? Whew! He’s giving me hot flashes.”

I looked past her in horror. There, with shoulders so broad they filled the doorway, was Hunter “DILF” Rhodes himself.

He was early. Who could have predicted that? As a former golden boy athlete, I had him pegged as someone who’d swan in twenty minutes late and brush it off with a charming smile.

Wow, Clark. Judgy much?

If he heard any of our conversation, he’d be well within his rights to do the judging. DILFs and dildos. It didn’t get much less professional than that. The nerves in my stomach wound even tighter.

This was not the first impression I wanted to make with the father of a student.

“Sorry to interrupt,” Hunter said as he hovered in the doorway. “I think I have a meeting here?”

Maisie wiggled her brows at me. “Suddenly everything makes sense.”

“Yes!” I jumped to my feet and gave Maisie a little shove to get her moving. “Come in, Mr. Rhodes. Maisie was just leaving.”

Maisie smirked, gaze darting between us, while I attempted to kill her with my X-ray vision.

“Fine, I’ll do my grading.” She pointed at me. “But I expect my tacos and tequila later!”

Damn, she was not going to give up, was she?
