“A cell with a window, mind you,” Merlin said calmly, acting as if she really believed she was about to be arrested and carried off to the castle dungeons and then left in peace.

Fenyx smiled and nodded at the older woman.

A terrible feeling came over me.

The blond man stepped forward.

In one swift movement, his broadsword was unsheathed and in his hand.

In the next, he had crossed the room and, sliding the blade upwards, impaled the High Priestess upon it.

Merlin turned her face to me as she fell, her life blood pouring onto the stones.

Her eyes were knowing, and her lips were parted in a smile that would be marked on my memory for all time.

Fenyx gave the sword a savage twist like a corkscrew in a bottle of wine, and she was...gone.

As she died, I was released.

Ifeltagain. Imovedagain.

I fell to the floor in a crumpled heap, my eyes never once leaving Merlin’s body.

Blood. There was so much blood all over her beautiful, white robes.

My brother opened the door to the hallway and began calling for his guards.

Behind the desk, Tuva let out a violent screech. As the two men looked at her in surprise, the bird unfurled her talons and, swooping across the room, flew out the door into the hallway before anyone could stop her.

CHAPTER 15 - MORGAN

Aman was carryingme in his arms.

It was not Draven.

I knew this simply from the sensation. I would have known my... husband’s... touch anywhere.
