Yes, that must be what she is.

The realization makes me possessive as I sweep my fingers over her shoulders.

She shivers at the touch but doesn’t recoil from me this time.

She hit me with a spell, I recall, and it was the first moment I met her.

Which must have altered my reaction to a fated-mate bond.

Perhaps I was here to kill her, but that was yesterday’s desire. Whatever price her death would have paid, her life holds so much more value.

I’m not opposed to a fated match. Not if it feels like this.

Not if it’s to you, Ishara Doyle.

I run my fingers across her throat, feeling her swallow.

And when this night is done, you’re going to scream for me, little witchling.

Because you’re mine.

Mine for life.

Mine until death.

And even then… I’ll bring you right back so we can do it all over again.

Chapter4

Issy

Terror winds through me as the male runs his fingers over my throat. It’s as if he knows my power resides in my voice.

And he’s daring me to use it.

I feel the possession in his touch that indents my skin. The warmth from his chest against my back bleeds into me, chasing away a lifetime of chills.

He’s a vampire. He’s not supposed to be this warm.

But he’s something else, too. There’s another power that runs through his veins that amplifies what he is.

That makes him a perfect match for me.

Perhaps he is my true fated mate.

His fingers don’t seem to hold Daithi’s magic anymore, but I still sense the dark magic hiding underneath the surface.

It’s as though he’s suppressed it somehow, making his touch the magical experience fate intended it to be.

I’m starting to lean into the idea that Daithi’s magic found him and is behaving like a parasite, burrowing itself into my fated mate to make use of the connection.

Meaning it could burn out, if given enough time. It is already safe to be touched by him.

Or maybe I’m rooting it out simply by my presence. I never got along very well with Daithi.

Rationalizing with your heart instead of your mind, once again,my mind chides.

My left hand clutches the dagger I mean to cut him with to collect the blood I need. Blood that can tell me vital information.
