I’m not one to question things when they turn in my favor. I’m a man of opportunity, after all.

“Then why does it feel like I didn’t?” she asks, her frosty eyelashes fluttering when I apply more pressure with my thigh.

The dampness spreading out over my pants proves that she still wants me.

Flames roar up all around us, but neither of us seems to care.

I’d burn alive with this witch if she wished it.

And with my history, that’s saying something.

“Because we’re fated, little witchling,” I say.

A swallow works down her throat as she holds on to me. “We are,” she agrees.

Testing her limits, I slip her other sleeve off, revealing her pale, plump breasts and rosy peaks.

She allows me to look.

Fuck.

She’s perfect in every way.

My fangs ache and I want to bite.

As if she senses my desire to devour her, she backs away. Her jaw clenches, as do her fists. “Or maybe the bond won’t break because of Daithi O’Neely’s magic.”

The slice of her words hit harder without her flesh to ground me.

I growl as the healing wound along my chest begins to open again.

Daithi O’Neely…

I roll that name around in my brain, but that memory is buried underneath that netting I don’t wish to disturb.

The flames crawl up the walls, providing a sense of urgency for us to resolve this standoff soon.

Because death will only permit being toyed with for so long.

For her, though, I risk it.

A fresh scream rips from my throat as I tear open old wounds, revealing scars and blood.

Revealing the truth.

I stare at her as it all comes back. Not just what she hid from me, but what these patriarchs of hers had hidden from me, too.

Leaving me with only one possible choice, because I know we can’t complete this bond. Not when someone like Daithi O’Neely is pulling the strings.

“Ishara Doyle, I reject you, too.”

Chapter6

Issy

My chest feels as if it ripped open when Jasper rejected me.

It should make me feel relieved, but the rejection isn’t both ways. Even though I said the words, my rejection didn’t seem to be effective. Daithi’s magic wouldn’t allow me a choice.
