Page 77 of Taste Me

He’s been possessive, but now he has a crease in his brow that’s new. “What’s wrong?” I ask him, desperate for a distraction from Zyran, who seems intent on tormenting me.

Jasper takes my cherry and holds it by the stem, then rolls it across my lips while he talks. “My brothers are right that I’m not one to share, but there’s something I’ve forgotten when it comes to my siblings. Do you want to know what it is?”

I hum against the cool cherry, focusing on the heat of the alcohol drizzling onto my tongue.

He gives me a wistful smile, one that’s almost painful. “I can feel their intentions. I didn’t notice it until last night, but there’s a connection I share with them. It’s a magical one, almost as if I can read their minds.”

I lick the cherry before taking it back from him. I know I’m being a tease, but I can’t seem to help it. I’m a complete introvert around most people, but these guys bring out that smutty heroine character that always kicks ass and gets all the hot guys.

That can be me, right?

Although, my ability seems limited on the “kicking ass” part. I only have a few fighting lessons from Bane to lean on, but I could totally have the hot guys.

What Jasper just told me gives me hope. If he has a connection to his brothers like I do to Fallon, it might give me some much-needed insight.

“That sounds similar to how Fallon and I can talk telepathically,” I say aloud. It’s not exactly the same, but it has the same principle of being emotionally connected to each other. I tilt my head as I toy with the cherry’s stem, sending the red orb swirling around. “So what are Zy’s intentions when it comes to me?”

Jasper looks at his brother. “He’s telling the truth. He’s going to give up his lifestyle not because he has to, but because he always planned to when he found his fated mate.” He licks his lips as he looks at me. “When he foundyou.”

A swallow sticks in my throat.

Spirits. How am I supposed to reject Zyran now?

Jasper surprises me by letting me go. He blows out another breath as if he’s made up his mind about something. “I came here because I didn’t trust you alone with him. But now I think I made a bigger mistake by leaving Kor by himself to deal with Royce and our father.”

My eyes widen. “He’s alone with them? Is that such a good idea?”

“Probably not,” he says, giving me a tender kiss on the cheek. “You’ll be safe with Zy. As much as I hate to admit it, he’s right about one thing.”

“What’s that?” I ask, looking into his eyes.

He leans in and whispers in my ear, “I’ve never been good at sharing. So I’d better leave before I spread you open and taste you right in front of him just to show him what’s mine.”

He nips my earlobe, making me jolt with the nip of pain. He chuckles, then pulls away. He doesn’t look back as he returns down the hall, grabbing Zy’s keys on the way. “Take care of her, Zy. I’ll be back tonight.”

“Hey, not my BMW, you assh—” Zy begins, but the sound of a door slam cuts him off.

With that, Jasper’s gone and I’m alone with a very hungry-looking vampire. It’s hard to tell, but he’s gone extremely still and he seems to be staring at me as his nostrils flare.

I run my fingers over the small hurt Jasper left behind and find my fingertips tipped with blood.

Then the screams come back. I school my features so Zy doesn’t notice.

I’m not sure why I’m hiding it. Maybe I’m ashamed that I can’t control my power.

Maybe I don’t want him to think I’m a freak.

Zyran smiles, revealing dangerous fangs. “He’s such a brat. Stealing my car and marking you? Cute, Jas. Real cute.”

I reach for a napkin on the counter, but Zy blurs to my side and grabs my wrist. He clicks his tongue at me before bringing my fingers to his lips. “Never waste this beautiful blood, sweetheart.”

He pulls a vial from his pocket and collects any loose blood. It’s only a few droplets, but he seems to treasure it as he pockets the find, then finally allows me to use the napkin. He plucks the cherry still dangling from my other hand and offers it to me. “Let’s continue the tour, shall we? Would you like to see the roof?”

I obediently nibble the cherry from his fingers, now feeling relaxed again that he’s touching me, then nod in agreement.

He seems pleased with himself when the cherry is finished, leaving only the stem. He places it on his tongue, closes his mouth, and then a moment later reveals that he’s tied the stem into a knot.

“You hold on to that while we look around,” he says, handing it to me. I stare at it as he takes my drink away, then slips his fingers through mine. “I know you’re worried about how many women I have been with before you, but now that I’ve found you, I’m all yours, if you want me. Everything I’ve learned is for you, and every sensual skill I’ve mastered will be a thousandfold better on your body.” He squeezes my fingers and tugs me along. “Now, on with the tour, baby girl. I have a surprise for you.”
