Hakon smirked. “You’re alive, aren’t you?”

“Will you go get him for me?” she pleaded.

“You don’t want to eat anything else?” he asked. “I can get you some MREs.”

She shook her head, knowing she couldn’t eat a bite until she cleared things with Drasko. Their pack had suffered so much that time Drasko had been banished for accidentally hurting her. She refused to let his self-loathing come between them again. “Not until I speak with him.” She swallowed back a lump of apprehension while looking at Hakon. “Do you mind giving us alone time?”

He bent over her and kissed her forehead. “Sure.” He slipped on a heavy coat and boots and went outside.

Wrapping her arms around herself, she breathed in the chilly air while listening to the wind batter the tent walls. Even with two glowing heaters flanking them, there was still a bite to the air, and she couldn’t wait to leave this place.

Her heart sank to her stomach when Drasko came in. She recognized that dejected look in his eyes. No. Their pack wasn’t fracturing again. She refused to let him pull away. Forcing a smile, she patted the pile of blankets beside her. “Come sit by me.”

Shoving his hands in his pockets like a child who’d been sent to time out, he grunted while walking around her and plopping down on the other side of Rone. Drasko wouldn’t even sit by her? Ugh. She looked over at Rone, surprised when he didn’t stir. “What can I say to take away your guilt?” she asked him.

“Nothing.” He hung his head, lines tightening his eyes. “I deserve it.”

“Look at me.” She heaved a frustrated breath. “We’re alive because of you.”

He looked at her briefly, the anguish reflecting in his eyes enough to take her breath away. “You were almost raped.”

“But I wasn’t.” Reaching over Rone, she took Drasko’s hand and refused to release him when he tried to pull away. “Our pack is safe and whole. You can sulk all you want, but you’re an amazing protector.” She paused, working hard to push out the words through a tightened throat as tears threatened to spill out of her eyes. “And I’m so lucky to have you as my mate.”

Drasko let out a cross between a groan and a growl, but her words must’ve done the trick, because his eyes flashed a feral yellow before he grasped her shoulders and kissed her so passionately and fiercely, she thought she’d combust. When he grasped the back of her head, deepening the kiss, she fell into his arms, keenly aware that Rone was still sleeping between them.

“Are you guys going to fuck on top of me or what?”

She pulled away from Drasko, no easy feat when she wanted nothing more than to fall into the blankets and submit to him. “Rone!” She stroked his face. “How do you feel?”

He sat up between Amara and Drasko, dragging a hand down his face. “Relieved you’re alive.” When he looked at her with those big, puppy dog eyes that watered with unshed tears, her heart shattered.

She fell into his lap as he plastered her face with kisses before squeezing her so tight her ribs ached. “I thought they killed you,” he said through a watery voice while rocking her in his arms. Then he let out a wail that broke her heart all over again.

“It’s alright, darling,” she cooed, running her fingers through his messy mop of hair. “I’m alright.”

He squeezed her tighter, pushing the last remaining breath from her lungs.

“Ease up, brother,” Drasko warned. “Our pregnant mate needs room to breathe.”

Rone loosened his hold, looking at her like he’d seen a ghost. “Did I hurt you?”

“I’m okay,” Amara said, wiping the tears from his eyes. She slanted a smile in Drasko’s direction. “We’reallokay, and that’s all that matters.”

Drasko kissed her shoulder, his lips lingering overly long, desire flashing in his eyes.

“Everything okay in here?” Hakon peeked his head inside the tent, his nostrils flaring. No doubt he smelled her heat.

“Yeah.” Amara shifted her weight while thinking how much she’d like some reunion sex.

Hakon stalked toward them, looking from Amara to Rone. “I’m glad you’re alive, brother,” he said to Rone, clasping his shoulder. “I don’t know what our pack would do without you.”

Rone visibly swallowed. “Thanks, brother. Is Luc okay?”

Hakon nodded.

Drasko cleared his throat. “Last I saw, he was with the other betas going through the Russians’ things.”

Rone visibly swallowed. “The Russians?”
