Coming to a stop, my mouth dropped open at the site before me.

“Holy shit, you were right,” Matt whispered. “It’s the base of some kind of structure.”

I quickly jumped into work mode. We needed to proceed carefully; hopefully, we’d find an artifact that would tell us what the site was used for.

“Look—this looks like a pot, maybe?” Ryan, another archeologist from London, said.

I nearly jumped with excitement as the whole team started to carefully clear the area around the pot. After a few hours, the pot has been carefully removed and placed in a container to bring back to the onsite lab, where it would be examined and then carefully cleaned.

When I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket, I stood and stretched. Christ, I’d been bent over for so long, I was stiff as a board.

Taking the phone out, I smiled when I saw who had texted me.

Hollie: How is your day going?

I quickly typed back my reply.

Me:Amazing! We found an area that looks to have been a structure of some sort. We got one pot out, and there is another piece that looks like part of a sword maybe.

Hollie:Ohhh, that sounds interesting. So, not just a gravesite?

Laughing, I shook my head.

Me:Nope. I’m hoping we can make at least one more discovery before we lose daylight.

Hollie: I have a feeling you’re going to make a pretty big one, maybe even two.

My heart jumped. Had she had a vision?

Me:What makes you say that?

When my phone rang, I jumped.

“Hey, is everything okay?” I asked. Hollie never called when I was at the site.

“Turn around and make your first discovery.”

Confused, I turned and saw her standing by one of the tents. Her long, brown hair was in a ponytail, but it whipped in the wind as she lifted her hand and waved.

“You’re here! You’re not supposed to be for another week.”

She chuckled. “I didn’t want to wait another week.”

“I’ll be right there.”

Hitting End, I turned to Matt and Ryan. “I’m taking a break. My fiancé is here a week early.”

Ryan grinned. “Dude, take the rest of the day off. We don’t have much sun left anyway.”

Nodding, I said, “I might just do that.”

“Perks of being the boss,” Matt said with a wink.

I quickly walked toward Hollie, fighting the urge to sprint. The last thing I wanted was for everyone to see me running toward her, even though that was all I wanted to do.

Stopping in front of her, I watched her blue eyes catch my brown.

“You’re here.”
