Dinner was lovely. Well, it was lovely as long as Matt and Sarah ignored each other. Lucas still seemed a bit off kilter, though. I couldn’t believe what had happened to him, and I was dying to talk to Lucy about it. I’d sent her a voice text earlier when I’d left the table with the excuse of needing to use the bathroom.

I knew some witches had precognitions—the ability to see into the future. But it usually only lasted for a few seconds. Sarah had it, there was no doubt about that. But could a witch travel back in time?

Glancing up, I saw Lucy at the back door of my house. She smiled, and I nearly dropped the dessert I was about to bring out to everyone. I rushed over to her. “Give me one second!”

Softly shutting the door, I made my way to the dining room and motioned for Kristin to come into the kitchen. She rose and quickly made her way toward me.

“What’s up?”

Handing her the dessert, I said, “I need you to serve this and tell everyone I had to go to the bathroom.”

Her brow rose. “Again?”

“I’m pregnant, Kristin. I have to pee a lot.”

She shot me a look that said I was full of bullshit. “And the fact that Lucy is waiting for you outside has nothing to do with this?”

My eyes widened. “Omg! Your gifts are growing stronger!”

She shook her head. “Not really; I can see her pacing on the back porch.”

I glanced over my shoulder and frowned when I saw my aunt doing just that.

“Go, I’ll stall for you.”

“Thanks!” I said, kissing Kristin on the cheek and making my way out to Lucy.

Once I was outside, she took my hand and we walked into the small backyard.

“Did you get my message?” I shook my head. “Of course you did, you’re here. Can Lucas time travel?”

Lucy smiled. “It sounds like Lucas stumbled into a time hole.”

“A what?”

“It’s a space between the present and the past. Not everyone can see them, and most often a witch falls into one when someone from their past needs them to know something.”

“Lucy, is this baby I’m carrying our great, great, great…whatever grandmother?”

Taking my hand in hers, Lucy said, “I do believe you are carrying the reincarnation of Catherine. Her life was taken so early on.”

“Why has she waited so long to find a new beginning?”

Lucy shrugged. “Maybe she hasn’t. I’m going to guess her mother had the gift, and Catherine may have had it as well. Her brother did.”

My brows shut up. “He did?”

She nodded.

“Why did Lucas find the hole and not me if we’re distant relatives?”

Lucy looked over my shoulder then turned to stare directly into my eyes. “Because Lucas has the gift.”

“I knew it! Sarah said you knew it as well. Why haven’t you ever told me?”

“Because a witch has to find their gift on their own.”

Pouting, I said, “What’s the fun in that?”
