Frowning, I asked, “Your mom practices witchcraft too?”

“Yes. Well, she did. I think she might still, but she’s put on a show of not believing in it. Lucy said she was afraid because I possessed this gift or power or whatever you want to call it, and I was so young. She thought if I didn’t believe in the craft, then it wouldn’t happen again. She thought it was too powerful for someone so young.”

“I remember, in school, you would answer the teacher sometimes before she would even ask a question.”

She nodded. “I was teased a lot, so I’m sure that is another reason I pushed it out of my head.”

Hollie suddenly stood, took both plates, and then headed for the kitchen.

I got up and followed her. Standing in the doorway, I watched her as she rinsed off the plates and put them in the dishwasher. She turned to face me.

“Tell me the spell, Hollie.”

She slowly shook her head. “I can’t.”

I moved further into the kitchen, and she started to back away from me. “Why won’t you tell me?”

Hollie started to wring her hands in what I had quickly realized was a nervous manner. I stopped only inches away from her. Our eyes locked onto each other’s, and I leaned down closer to her.

“Tell me.”

“Please, Lucas. Don’t ask me to tell you,” she said in a husky voice that seemed to travel straight to my dick. Fuck, if I didn’t want this girl.

Lifting my hand, I reached up and took one of the curls that hung down just below her shoulders. Her light brown hair was naturally curly, and she usually wore it up, but today, it was down. The long-sleeve, blue T-shirt she had on made her eyes pop even more than usual. They reminded me of deep, blue pockets of the ocean. So blue, they took your breath away.

“Hollie,” I whispered as I moved my mouth to the side of her ear. Her entire body shivered, and I loved that she reacted to me like that. “Tell me what the spell was for.”

She inhaled and I was almost sure she was going to say it. Then her hands came up, and she pressed them to my chest, causing a rush of energy to move from her body to mine. I moved my head and placed a soft kiss on her neck.

Gently pushing me away, Hollie ducked under my arm. “What are you doing?”

I turned to face her. “What do you mean?”

“You kissed me.”

“Did I?”

She looked confused as her hand came up and touched the spot on her neck where I had placed a kiss.

“Why won’t you tell me the spell, Hollie?”

“I’m afraid to.”

I frowned. “Why?”

She licked her lips and tangled her hands together. “I’m afraid you won’t feel the same way.”

My knees nearly buckled. I needed to know what the hell that spell was for.

“Please tell me.”

She was about to say something when another voice filled the room.

“What’s going on?”

Hollie spun around so fast, she nearly lost her balance. Then she gasped when she saw Wendy standing there.

“How did you get in?” I asked, my voice laced with both anger and confusion.
