“We’re a mess,” I murmured.

“Yup, you’re contagious.” Ford smirked, though a shadow flickered behind his eyes.

“There isn’t anyone else to make me take time for me, Ford,” I whispered. “I haven't been on a date in years, let alone had anyone do something like what you did for me yesterday...today.”

“It’s just money.” He shrugged, staring at some unknown point over my head.

How hurt has he been?

After meeting Jess, I had a bit of an idea what sort of woman he dated before, and how hard it bit his ass.

“No, it’s more than that and don’t you dare play it down,” I said fiercely. “This took effort and more than a little persuading, Ford. Hell, even if it was just your dream thing to do with someone then I’m glad we’re sharing it.”

He looked down at me, his lips softening. The shadow behind his eyes lightened, their twinkle returning. “I wasn’t doing it for only me.” He threw his head back and laughed while I reversed us in a gentle circle and took the lead, my feet finally remembering how to skate. “That sounds utterly selfish. I once thought I’d love to do this. The whole New York, white Christmas affair thing with a girl I love in my arms.” He dropped that bombshell with an easy grin that rounded up the reindeer inhabiting my insides nicely. “I met you three days ago, and I can't imagine doing this with anyone else. Not ever, Nisha. Your smile lights me up from the inside out. You make me remember what it feels like to play. Let go.”

I started humming. “Should I call you Elsa? I’ll get you a pretty costume,” I offered with a sly smile. “Truely, I’m grateful to share this with you. You– everything. I live here, have only ever lived in New York City, and this is magic I haven’t felt since I was a kid wondering when Santa would come.”

“That’s a fantasy we can play later, if it's what you want,” Ford said thoughtfully, spinning us around until I didn't know who was leading any more.

“You have a filthy mind, Mister Millham,” I said as he found my hand and spun me about slow enough I didn’t lose my bearings.

Every second drew out until time froze as the tiniest snowflakes fell, scattering across our clasped hands, leaving us in the perfect snowglobe moment. Ford wrapped his hand around the back of my neck, drawing me in for a kiss that lasted forever and was still not anywhere near enough.

When I drew back, a teensy snowflake sat on the end of his nose. Risking my balance I held onto his shoulders for purchase and licked the tip of his nose.

Ford blinked.

“That was unexpected.”

We looked at each other as the snow began to dissipate, then as one, tipped our heads back and stuck out our tongues.

“Ahhh.”
