I whined, wanting more. “Yes.”

“Don’t bring him in here with us. Just like the heat. Keep everyone else out. There’s no one here but you and your pack, okay?”

That would be hard. It was all I could think about. But he was right, and hadn’t I thought the same thing? That this was a safe place? “I’ll try.”

“Good girl.”

My breath went short, my body reacting and heating up with his approval. “You can’t say that every time.”

“Why not?”

“Because.”

He smiled, lowering his mouth to where the top of my nightgown met my skin. “That’s not a real answer. Because if you squirm like that every time I say it, I’m going to say it a lot.”

One of his hands gathered the fabric of the nightgown slowly, bunching it up so more and more of me was revealed. Until all of it was shoved up above my breasts, exposing what he was looking for. “Mmm.” He kissed the skin directly between them before lightly teasing one nipple with his tongue. “The frenzy of the heat was amazing, but I find myself wanting to explore you slowly.”

“Not too slowly,” I begged, the word slipping into a moan when his whole mouth consumed me.

Gabriel’s tongue swirled around my nipple, drawing it to near painful hardness. “I don’t know,” he said. “I think slow can be kind of nice.”

Grabbing his hair, I pulled him back to me. “Is this actually what you want and need, or is this what you thinkIneed?”

“What if I tell you it’s exactly what I want?”

“Thengood.But I don’t think it is.”

A wicked smirk crossed his face, and he bent to tease my other nipple. “Why not?”

“Because the only time you haven’t held back with me is during the heat, and even then it was when you needed to get me out of my head.” My breath caught, words trying to evaporate under the attention of his mouth. “Do you think I don’t notice?”

He didn’t respond, instead dragging his mouth up my skin and beneath my jaw until his lips pressed against mine without kissing me. “Are you telling me you don’t like gentle softness?”

I studied his eyes, that soft warmth of the green in them. Tiny flecks of a bluer shade. “You’re deflecting,” I told him. “Am I your Omega?”

The growl in his chest rumbled through both of us. “Fuck yes, you are.”

“Then you’re my Alpha.” Just like he asked me if he could guide me, I had a job too. My job was to push him so he didn’t get lost in that protection. Alpha and Omega. Push and pull. Each of my Alphas would need something different, and this was what he needed. “And I can handle you. Letting yourself be who you are isn’t going to cause me pain, Gabriel. You don’t have to spank me, and I’m not going to pretend I don’t love it when you tease me so much I feel like I’m drowning. I love gentle softness. But that’s not what you feel right now.”

“No?” It wasn’t a full denial. He was waiting to see what I would say.

“No. Because the Gabriel that held me downstairs and told me it wasn’t my fault? That Gabriel was holding on by a thread. You know it and I know it. You’re all holding on by tatters because of that dick biscuit, and I don’t need you to temper the feeling.” He smiled at the term but didn’t interrupt me. “You’re angry? So the fuck am I. He claims I’m his, and I’m not. Show me that I’myours.”

Fire burned in his gaze. A shift. Everything he’d buried coming to the surface. I felt the power of it, and my perfume exploded around us. All I wanted was him. Who he really was.

Grabbing both sides of his face, I pulled him down to me. “Do what you wanted. Make me feel good. But do it the way you really want to and don’t be afraid to show me who you are. And later, when we’re both happy and sleepy and cuddly you can spend all the time you like exploring me. Lay me out in front of your fireplace and torture me with gentle softness if you want to.”

One hand smoothed the hair back from my face, that power still in his eyes. “Are you sure, little one? I didn’t lie. I can’t bear punishing you tonight, and I’m happy to make this all soft as the velvet you’re laying on.”

“But I’m not wrong?” I pressed.

“You’re not wrong, little one.”

“Then please.” A whine slipped out. “Please.”

He kissed me softly one more time, grabbing my hands and stretching them over my head. “There’s never a time when we can’t stop.”

I laughed, a giggle I couldn’t suppress because I couldn’t ever imagine wanting to stop. “Okay.”
