I looked up at my packmate. “Did you do this?”

“No. I don’t have anything to do with casting. Ian put together the groupings he wanted based on watching back the archives of the last few seasons and the interviews he’s been doing with Mark the last few months.”

Relief surged through my chest. Sloane and I dancing together was…

The last thing I wanted was for her to think I’d tried to force her close to me by having an exception made. But these roles were perfect. Sloane was an incredible dancer, with both the passion and the ethereal quality needed for the role. And most of the second act was her and me.

“The others need to know. We need to talk to her. She needs to meet you and them.” My hands tightened around the clipboard, and I put it down before I broke it. Every instinct wasscreamingat me to go and find her. Take her in my arms again and bathe in her scent before making hermine.

Gabe laughed softly. “You think I don’t want to go find her right now? I wish I’d caught her on the way out the door and had her pressed up against these windows right now.”

“I hate that I canhearthe ‘but’ in your voice.”

“But,” he said, “she needs to lead this. I don’t mean we’ll let her avoid us, but even if it’s something we won’t care about, there’s a reason she ran from this.”

I appreciate that he saidthisand notyou. That’s what it felt like. She ran fromme. I needed to know why, or I was going to go insane.

“I think I might need you to knock me out when we get home,” I said.

He laughed once, turning and picking up his phone and his coat, not realizing I was completely serious. “You might have to do the same to me,” his statement was clearly a joke. “I planned on staying here the rest of the day and getting started on things.”

“But?”

He smiled grimly and pulled open his office door. “But if I do, I’ll be using that computer to look up her address, phone number, email, and I won’t be able to control myself with that information. Let’s go tell Roman and Jace.”

Gabriel grabbed me by the arm before I could turn andlungefor the computer. “Stop.”

I can’t. I can’t.

The way her words sounded while she was pressed into my chest.I can’t.

All the fight went out of me. One day. We hadn’t seen each other for five years. I could make it one day. Even if I had to ask Roman to punch me in the face to do it.

CHAPTER FIVE

________

SLOANE

Iswiped away my tears and made sure no one else saw me crying. The beginnings of new seasons were already hard enough without people thinking there was drama.

“Lo.” Dion’s voice caught my attention.

“Yeah?”

He looked me up and down, noticing everything, and thankfully, he chose to say nothing. “I won’t slow you down, but the lists are up.” Dion nodded toward the bulletin board.

“Oh. Right. Am I going to be happy?”

Smirking, he hooked an arm around my shoulder as we walked over. “Better be, bitch.”

I traced my finger down the paper until I found my name.
