Subconsciously, my eyes clenched shut, I am. I’m playing for them both.

But Kaden needs to see this too. He needs to hear it. He needs to understand.

I’m so often a ball of self-doubt and uncertainty when all I want to do is explode.

Let everything bottled up out.

This is my moment. The one time I have centerstage. Maybe the only chance I’ll ever get to play a piano as magnificent as this in a place as opulent and beautiful.

The final deep melodic note plays, vanishing as suddenly as it began.

I’m breathless, with a feeling of relief bubbling to the surface. I open my eyes and allow a slow-spreading smile to come to my lips.

A single pair of hands fills up the vacant theater with their applause.

Kaden’sapplause. I twist in my seat on the bench to find him ten feet behind me with a tantalizing dark shine in his gaze.

My spine vibrates once I understand what it means. My insides flutter and my pussy clenches.

“That was…” he pauses to consider his words. “Unexpected… but intense. You continue to impress me.”

He starts toward me with a patient, lazy kind of stroll that reveals his confidence and utter certainty.

I’m going nowhere. He knows this. I know this.

There’s no escape, and even if I were to try, he would catch me. He would hunt me down and catch me.

Because I’m his prey.

In this moment, as this realization strikes me, I’ve never been more certain about anything in my life.

Yet, I stay rooted on the bench, watching him approach. I can’t find it in myself to react. I’ve fallen under his spell.

When he’s an arm’s length away, he stops. He issues his next command. One I’d never expect in a million years.

Not here. Notright now.

“Take off your dress.”

“My dress off?” I repeat, then I do what the security guard did earlier.

I glance around the empty theater in search of an invisible person to corroborate if I’ve heard him correctly. Like earlier, no one’s around to back me up.

It’s just the two of us.

Kaden raises a brow. “I believe you heard me, Lyra. But do you dare give in?”

“G-give in?” I stutter back, feeling lost.

He sets off at a slow stride, pacing around the gorgeous Steinway on the stage, and in turn, circling around me too. I try my best to keep him within my line of sight. Something easier said than done as I rotate in place and follow him with my gaze, but he still alludes me. He winds up behind me, coming up close enough that his body heat radiates off him. I can almost feel his hard body pressed against mine.

I swallow thickly and choke out his name, “Kaden…”

One of his hands grips my waist. The other slides up my body in achingly slow fashion, making my heart pound in my chest, stopping only once it encloses around my throat.
