Fletcher didn’t dare break it.

“It never did. It just followed along with us. And honestly, I’m just so tired now. Tired of fighting it, staying strong, and just flat-out pretending to be tougher than I am. I just want to be able to escape it.”

She let out a scoff. “The irony of it all is that the only way to escape it is to finally shift. That’s why we focused on trying to find a cure for so long. And now, two of us have done it, and we tie it to them being with their true mate. But now Addy has found hers and still can't, which means that it’s on me to connectbothof us.”

Fletcher wanted to hold her tighter and let her release all of her tears on him.

He stopped himself. He wanted her to come to him. He desperately wanted to be her confidant and the one she leaned on when she trusted no one else to catch her.

He chose words instead of action. “It’s not fair for you to put all of that on yourself.”

She choked up. “I know, but I feel like I have to. For things to work out, I need to be the one to figure it out.” Madison finally leaned deeper into his body and let herself give in to a few tears. “It’s just a lot. I can’t help myself. And like I said, I’m tired.”

Fletcher kissed her hair, inhaling her aroma. “I know you are. That’s what I’m here for. To lessen your load.”

She turned her head into his chest and buried her face there.

She was letting herself finally cry. He said nothing and let her do what she needed.

Madison wasn’t like other women. She wanted to put on a brave face and show everyone that she was strong.

Even now, he knew she was still holding back, but if he catered to it at all, she would close back up and be ashamed that she ever showed that side of her to him.

She didn’t need comfort. She needed a man who let her just be.

After a moment of letting her cry, Fletcher continued as he began to rub her back. “You never have to deal with that again. I promise. Especially alone. Even if I have to put you in a bubble.” He chuckled, hoping it would ease the tension of the heavy moment.

It worked. Madison let out a soft laugh as she sniffled before rubbing her nose.

She pulled away from him, though she kept most of her weight on his body as she looked reflectively into the fire.

“You don’t have to do that. I’m notthatfragile.”

“I know, but maybe it works well with my plan to keep you all to myself.”

She giggled and shouldered into him.

He grabbed her arms and laid her back, kissing her smiling lips.

Fletcher loved that she had opened up just a little to him. It was a hell of a start and a lot further than he had gotten before.

Maybe his mother was right in being direct with her and not acting like a scared little boy.

Of course, he would never admit that to her. His mother already was well aware that she was hardly, if ever, wrong.

Madison returned his kiss with passion, and it spoke volumes now that she had shared her vulnerabilities with him.

His wolf could feel her submit to him, and it drove him wild.

He wanted to take her again right there where they had fucked each other just moments before she revealed herself to him.

Fletcher kissed her neck. He felt her hot breath on his cheek as she pressed herself against him.

Her eyes closed as her breathing grew heavy. She pressed her ass into his growing cock.

“Mmm, don’t start something you can’t finish.”

“Oh, you don’t feel that?” he asked, pressing himself firmly against her.
