There was something else that made Fletcher smirk. A whisper that was vague before had grown into a boom. Something that he always knew she had in her, but only required the mating bond to nudge it forward.

At least, that was what he hoped was happening.

Fletcher stood with Madison still in his arms, feeling dizzy. Trenton came to his side with a blanket and clothing and helped them over to an accompanying car. He placed Madison on the back seat, touching her cheeks, thrilled to feel the heat returning to them.

“You did what you had to do,” Trenton said at the door. “I hope you know that.”

Fletcher nodded. It was generally shunned to force a mating bond outside of sex without a partner’s conscious consent, but Fletcher felt as if he had been cornered. He was an alpha, after all, and had to take into account whatever tools were offered to him. At that moment, forcing the bond was all he had.

“I will get her to the healer. You stay back, take a count of the dead, and report back to me ASAP.”

Trenton nodded, and then Fletcher climbed into the front seat. He sped off to the palace feeling different, but that glowing invisible thread between them had finally been solidified.

SEVENTEEN

MADISON

Madison was in a fog when she finally stirred.

Her mind raced with flashes of what had happened.

The attack, Fletcher, the wolves.

She shot up.

Fletcher.

She didn’t know if he was okay or how the battle had ended.

Madison moved quickly, then stopped when she realized she should have been a lot sorer than she was, especially after the beating that she had taken.

There was something else that seemed to be different as well.

She was trying to remember what had happened when she had gone in and out of consciousness the last couple of days, now that she knew that it hadn’t been a dream.

Her heart calmed when it realized that Fletcher was all right.

But how could she know that? She couldn’t remember seeing him the few times she had awoken, but yet she knew he was alive.

Then, it hit her what it was.

Holy shit.

The mating bond had been formed.

Madison rushed over to a mirror and looked over her entire body. She should at least have scuff marks or bruises after the other night. But nothing. Her wounds were all healed!

“Holy shit,” she murmured, this time out loud. There wasn’t a doubt now that the bond had been made.

Madison knew she should be upset just a little for something so life-changing to happen without her consent, but she wasn’t even irritated.

She was glad that Fletcher had taken things into his own hands and bonded them. She knew that it was only because he had to. Her wounds must have just been bad enough.

Suddenly, Madison felt Fletcher’s emotions. All it had taken was her simply thinking about her mate, and she was channeled into him.

And right then, she wanted to vomit. Fletcher was making himself sick with worry over her well-being.

She instantly wanted to comfort him, show him that there was nothing to worry about.
