He stared at me uncomprehendingly. "You are about to eat one."

"I'm not a vampire," I stated, taking the roll he had almost taken and taking a bite of it instead of the one in my other hand.

"A vamp—what?"

"A vampire." I wondered if the garlic on my breath would be harmful to him as well and put both rolls down.

"You don't like them?" he asked, wrinkling his forehead.

"I don't want to hurt you," I explained.

He snatched a roll and took a bite. "See? I'm okay."

I still tasted the garlic on my tongue from my one bite and watched incredulously as he devoured two rolls. Realizing I had fallen for stupid folklore, I lowered my eyes and twirled spaghetti on a fork.

I noticed him watching me intently before he mimicked my movements. "You never had spaghetti before?"

He shook his head. "I was born several hundred years after we left Adama last time. The only time I remember having decent food was when we stopped on Elysian, and nothing like this."

He took a bite and again I was rendered speechless at him eating. It seemed folklore was once again getting the better of me.

"What?" he asked again.

I shook my head. "It's stupid really, but on Earth they say vampires don't eat food and hate garlic."

"I still don't know what a vampire is," he said, spearing a shrimp.

I took his fork and showed him how to pull the tail off before giving it to him to eat.

"Hmm, good," he praised. "Now tell me about your vampires."

"According to legend, vampires are people like you, who drink blood, are invincible, and live forever. They don't eat or drink anything besides blood though."

"Hmm," he nodded, taking a sip of wine. "I do prefer blood, but this is good."

"So you're not a vampire?"

"What is your fascination with vampires?" he asked, tilting his head.

I licked my lips. "I don't know, you just remind me of them. Maybe one day we'll watch a vampire movie together."

"Movie?"

"You know, where people pretend to be somebody else, living a different life? We watch them on TV, like your tablet?"

"Oh, we have those." His face lit up.

"You do?"

He nodded and pulled out his tablet. He tapped it a few times before he looked at me. "What would you like to watch?"

"A love story," I replied automatically.

He tapped some more and handed me the tablet. It took me a few minutes before I realized what I was seeing wasn't really a movie but a computer animation, but so true to life, it was uncanny. Every single detail was taken into consideration, even some bejeweled cats roamed a very Egyptian looking palace.

The most beautiful woman I had ever seen reclined in a chair with her features taut from tragedy. She had a basket in her hands. "This will be quick, Your Royal Highness," a man said, handing the basket to her.

"And Antony? You are sure he is dead?"
