"The gargoyles can't touch us princes," Seth reminded me. He was right, the devilish creatures had been trained not to attack anybody of royal blood. This decision of Behlial's might come back to haunt him.

"And the nobles?"

Thousands of nobles journeyed with us, more than half of them were males hoping to capture a Nayphyllym or at least a Tainted on the journey while observing the quest.

"It will have to be quick," Seth admitted. "I don't know where they will stand, but as long as we get it over with quickly, without giving them much time to think, I'm certain they will stay out of the fray."

He gave me a moment to think his offer over. With us brothers on the same page and some of the guards on our side, I didn't think the nobles would be much of a hindrance. Mostly they were over satiated, indulgent beings who came on this quest to give them an illusion of adventure. They were like the one who had attacked Fay, willing only to embark on a risk where they knew they were stronger and would win.

Seth placed a hand on my shoulder. "It's a risk, brother, but I believe it's one worth taking. It's our only chance."

"Not our only chance," I reminded him.

His hand moved from my shoulder to my heart. "You want to kill me as little as I want to kill you."

"But I would kill you," I said, and knew I meant it, albeit with a heavy heart.

"And I would kill you as well," Seth agreed. "But let's consider this other option first."

"When would this happen?" I asked, weighing my slim choices.

"Tomorrow," Seth said, surprising me. "Behlial has something planned for Abaddon, who is not on our side. As soon as Abaddon is out of the way, we'll take Behlial down. Marduk and Grigori will trap the guards who are not on duty, leaving us only to deal with whoever is not on our side in the throne room."

I cocked my head and narrowed my eyes. "Why are you telling me all this? I haven't agreed to your plan yet."

"You will," Seth stated arrogantly.

I raised an eyebrow, but grinned. "Probably so."

Seth's eyes narrowed as well. "I like you, Azazel, always have, but make no mistake, if you cross us, all three of us will come after you."

I wasn't intimidated by his threat, concerned maybe, but not daunted. It didn't matter though because his plan was actually solid. I held out my hand. "Tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow." He took my hand and shook it.

Thoughtfully, I returned to Fay, who stood frozen, holding the balcony's railing so hard her knuckles were white. I was sure she had watched our exchange the entire time and was proud of her for not running after me. I liked her clear-headedness.

"Was that one of your brothers?" she asked, embracing me.

"Yes. That was Seth."

"You like him." It was an observation, not a question.

"I do."

"You guys talked for quite a while."

"Let's get back first, it'll be easier to talk there," I cautioned her.

She instantly let go of me and fell in step behind me. I hated that I couldn't hold her hand, that I couldn't show her off the way I wanted, the way she deserved.Patience, I told myself,if Seth's plan works, in a few hours, you will be free of Behlial and free to show off Fay.

Even though I didn't doubt Seth, I didn't fully trust him either and turned every so often to make sure nobody followed us to find out where Fay and I slept.

At some point, I knew I would have to return to mybrides. I was sure my mother must have grown tired of babysitting them, and Behlial would grow suspicious if she wasn't available to answer his beck and call. I didn't want to though. I couldn't bear being away from Fay.

Finally, in our chamber, I pulled her into my arms. "Thank you."

Bewildered, she raised her head up to me. "For what?"
