The taste of her was intoxicating, and I found myself unable to pull away. Feeling the same way, her hands ran up and down my back, pulling me closer to her. The game was forgotten as we lost ourselves in the moment, our bodies pressed together, the heat between us building with each passing second.

As we pulled away, breathless and wanting more, I couldn’t help but feel like this was the start of something new. Something that could be beautiful and real. I looked down at her, my heart pounding in my chest.

My hand slid up her shirt, fondling her breast. I was quickly growing more aroused by the second. There was a part of me that wanted to take her right there on my sofa. There was another part of me that said to slow things down.

But damn, she tasted so good. Things started to heat up.

“Daddy,” I heard Lily sob.

“Shit,” I muttered and jumped off her. I rushed out of the den and found Lily coming down the hallway rubbing her eyes.

“I’m here,” I said. “I’m right here.”

“I had a bad dream,” she whimpered.

I scooped her up and pulled her into my arms. “I’ve got you. I’m right here.”

She wrapped her arms around me and clung to me. I could feel her heart racing in her chest. She was still terrified.

“What’s the matter, baby?” I asked. “What happened in your dream?”

“There was a ghost,” she sobbed. “It chased me and tried to eat me.”

“Oh, no,” I said, realizing how scared she must have been. “Don’t worry, baby. I’m right here. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

I held her close and rocked her back and forth. She buried her face in my shoulder, her little arms clinging to me as I walked back to the stairs. I carried her upstairs, holding her close to me. “What did the ghost look like?” I asked s I put her back into bed.

“I don’t know. It was something scary.”

“I’ll turn on your other light,” I said. “Everything is okay. You’re fine. I’m going to be right down the hall in my bed.”

“No,” she said, her voice still shaking. “I’m scared.”

“I’ll stay with you. I’ll keep you safe.”

She nodded, her arms wrapped tight around my neck. I stretched out beside her in her little bed. It wasn’t the first time I found myself soothing her to sleep in her bed. I hummed a song that wasn’t a song. It was just humming. I could feel her falling back to sleep and stayed with her a little longer. I hate when she has bad dreams. I wished I could do something to make it stop.

ChapterFourteen

Deanna

Icouldn’t believe I just made out with my boss. I was embarrassed and confused. What the hell was I thinking? One second we were watching basketball and the next he was kissing me. Or maybe I kissed him. I couldn’t really explain what happened.

The worst part of the whole thing was I actually liked it. I probably would have had sex with him if Lily didn’t interrupt us. I wondered if she was okay. Did she see us? It sounded like she was down the hall, but I couldn’t say for sure. I hoped she didn’t see me getting hot and heavy with her daddy. That would be too weird. How was I going to look at her after getting busted?

I would have fled the scene of my crime, but I couldn’t. Not unless I called a ride. And I was a little worried about Lily. I wasn’t going to interfere with the situation. I got up and walked to the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea. I leaned against the counter, stopping the microwave at one second to keep it from making too much noise. Not like it would matter in the massive house. I could probably play the drums and they wouldn’t hear me upstairs.

Ramsey came into the kitchen about fifteen minutes later. He ran a hand through his hair and opened the fridge to grab a bottle of water.

“Is she okay?” I asked.

“Yes.” He nodded.

“What happened?”

“Nightmare,” he answered with a sigh.

“Oh, poor girl,” I said with a frown. “What was the nightmare about?”
