We gathered around the table, our plates brimming with love and deliciousness. The fluffy pancakes melted in our mouth. Lily piled on the strawberries and covered them with the whipped cream. Laughter filled the air as we savored every bite, basking in the joy of togetherness. I felt a sense of excitement for my future. This might actually be what my future could be. What Lily’s future could be.

Dee reached for another pancake. “These are really good. Restaurant quality good.”

I laughed and took another bite. “Just a mix with a few little extras to make them sweeter.”

“I think you could have been a chef,” Dee joked. “Instead, you’re out trying to save the world.”

My eyes flashed with amusement. “Can’t I do both?”

“I think you are.”

We finished breakfast with Lily, and I cleaned up while Dee went upstairs to get ready for the day. I did have some work to do, but I didn’t care. I wanted to give the ladies my full attention.

Istepped out of the shower and toweled off. There were a few little reminders of our time together the night before. It was still kind of hard for me to get my head around. I couldn’t believe I actually slept with the man. I didn’t regret it. Not even a little. It was impossible to regret anything that good.

I walked back downstairs to find Lily and Ramsey in the living room discussing what they wanted to do for the day. I thought it would probably be best if I quietly left.

Lily spotted me and grinned. A radiant smile spread over her face with her eyes shining with excitement. Ramsey flashed the smile of a man who had seen a woman naked. There was a twinkle in his eyes that made me feel a little funny.

“We were just talking about what we should do today,” he said. “What do you think about painting?”

“I think you guys should go for it.”

“Are you going to hang out with us?” Lily asked.

“Oh, I think your dad has plans,” I replied.

“We’d love you to hang with us if you don’t have anything else to do today,” Ramsey said.

How could I resist? It wasn’t like I had anything else to do. “I would love to hang out. And paint. We bought those canvases at the store the other day.”

“Yes!” Lily jumped up and down.

“I’ll grab the stuff from the closet,” I said.

“You’re not on the clock,” Ramsey said. “Just tell me where it’s at and I’ll get it.”

I laughed. “It’s easier for me to just get it.”

I collected the materials and took them back to the kitchen. Ramsey spread a plastic tablecloth over the table and had put an apron on Lily. “Alright,” he said. “I’m ready to be the next Picasso.”

I laughed and shook my head. “If you’re also an artist, I’m going to have to be more than a little jealous. You can’t be a genius, a chef, and an artist.”

“Trust me, my painting skills are not going to make anyone jealous,” he joked.

We spent the rest of the morning creating our own little masterpieces. The afternoon was spent playing games and just having fun. When the doorbell rang, we were all a little surprised. “I’ll get it,” Ramsey said and left the living room.

He returned with a pretty woman. “Aunt Izzy!” Lily exclaimed and jumped up to give her a hug.

“Izzy, this is Dee, Lily’s nanny,” Ramsey introduced us.

“It’s nice to meet you,” I said. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“I hope I’m not crashing your party,” she said.
