Ramsey’s eyes met mine, filled with unwavering certainty. “Dee, I’ve never been surer about anything in my life,” he said, his voice laced with conviction. “Marrying you isn’t just about the adoption. It’s about building a life together, as partners, as parents to Lily, and as two people who are deeply in love.”

Tears welled up in my eyes as I gazed at the man who had captured my heart. The weight of his words and the depth of his commitment washed over me, leaving no room for doubt or hesitation. In that moment, I knew that saying yes to his proposal wasn’t just about legalities or societal expectations—it was about embracing a future that we had all yearned for.

I glanced at Lily who was standing quietly, watching the two of us with hope in her eyes.

Ramsey dropped to one knee in front of me and held out the ring. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might burst out of my chest. I took a deep breath and looked down at the ring in Ramsey’s hand. The diamond sparkled in the dim light of the room, casting a rainbow of colors on the walls. It was beautiful, just like the man who was holding it.

“Dee,” Ramsey said, his voice soft and gentle. “I love you. We’ve proven we’re stronger together. I’ve been intrigued by you from the very moment I laid eyes on you. Bringing you into our lives was the best decision I ever made. You’ve shown Lily love and grace and patience. You stole her heart before you stole mine. I think I’ve waited my whole life for you. My waiting paid off. I know you’re the perfect wife for me and the perfect mother for Lily.”

My heart felt like it was being squeezed in the best way. “You guys are so perfect.” I smiled.

“We have talked about this and we’re both ready,” Ramsey said. “We’re a package deal. We want you to be part of our family, officially. Will you marry us?”

I didn’t even have to think about it. “Yes,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “I want to marry you,” I said to Ramsey and then looked at Lily. “And I want to adopt you. I want to be your mom.”

Ramsey slipped the ring on my finger, and I felt a surge of joy and contentment flow through me. This was the beginning of a new chapter in my life, and I was ready to embrace it fully. As Ramsey stood up, he pulled me into his arms and kissed me deeply. I could feel the love and passion radiating from him, and I knew that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

Lily let out a small cheer and ran over to us, hugging us both tightly. “I’m so happy!” she exclaimed. “We’re going to be a real family! I’m going to have a mom!”

Tears of happiness streamed down my face as I looked at my two loves. I knew that there would be challenges ahead, but I was ready to face them head-on, with Ramsey and Lily by my side. We were a unique family, but that only made us stronger. As we held each other, I knew that nothing could break the bond we had formed.

I knelt down to look directly at Lily. “I’m so grateful you picked me to be your mom,” I said. “I’m going to fill out those papers right now. We’re going to file them and get this thing rolling!”

She threw her arms around my neck and squeezed. “I love you,” she said.

“I love you.”

In the days that followed, Ramsey reached out to Lily’s mother who agreed that I could adopt her daughter. She had no interest in being in her daughter’s life which was such a shame. I’d make it up to Lily by being the best mother she could ask for. We also began planning the wedding. It was going to be a small, intimate affair with just our closest friends and family. Ramsey and Lily were just as involved as I was, and we spent hours poring over every detail, making sure that everything was perfect. The wedding felt like it belonged to all three of us. It wasn’t just my wedding to plan. We all had a say in making it perfect.
