“Eh, who cares? None of them have even seen the movie, anyway. Let’s just have fun.”

The lights came on as the tempo picked up, and the crowd started cheering.

We had no idea what we were doing; clearly Ellie and I needed some serious dancing lessons.

But we made our way through. I even picked her up and twirled her once or twice, and we laughed our asses off the entire time. The crowd lost their minds, applauding us. It was everything I could have asked for. I didn’t attempt the lift, of course, but I don’t think Ellie minded.

It was goofy, and ridiculous, and hopefully video of that moment would never see the light of day.

But for me, there was nothing better than sharing it with Ellie. I’d done a lot of things in my life, some dangerous, some wild. But nothing had ever made me feel as alive as I did just holding Ellie’s hand. It was as if there was a door she unlocked that I never realized was closed before me. And now, with Ellie by my side, I could see nothing but open doors for the rest of my life.
