“Yes.”

He got quiet. “You don’t know when it is.”

“I don’t care. I need a fight.”

“You just had two fights.”

“You only tell me about fights if you think I should take them. I want to take this one. What are you doing? Do you think I shouldn’t take it?”

“No. I—I just talked you into a fight so soon after another one and you pushed back on that. Now, nothing. You’re suddenly all eager when you don’t know who the guy is or when the fight is going to happen.”

“I trust you.”

He was silent again. “Why am I getting the feeling I don’t fully know what’s going on here?”

Right. He needed convincing. “Remember what went down today. I need something to focus on or I’m going to rip someone’s head off that probably wouldn’t help my career. You got me?”

“Okay.” He didn’t sound like he was accepting it. “Well, I can give you the details tomorrow. Where are you?”

I checked his own phone’s tracker and smirked. “How do you know I’m not home again?”

“Because I have my ways. Where are you?”

I turned off the engine, but didn’t move. “Doing the same thing you’re doing.” I was watching Cohen in the rearview mirror. He wasn’t saying anything. Neither was Alex.

My uncle was quiet. “How’s Cohen doing?”

“I don’t know since I just arrived, and I’m talking to you. I’ve not gotten out to assess him. How’s your best friend doing?” His best friend was the reason Cohen and I even knew each other. He was Cohen’s uncle.

“How do you think? Been spending all afternoon talking with his sister about his niece’s nude picture being spread on the internet.”

I frowned. “It got that far?”

“Yeah. One kid, but he was tracked and we think we got it contained. Lucky break, though.”

I heard how Garcia and Gem went crazy. That helped. “Yeah.”

“Cohen told him that some of the girls went nuts in school? The principal called, wondering if they should be punished or praised. They had to ask the police about those legalities.”

I grunted. “There were a few different parties that threw down, made it known their lives would be not fun if they didn’t delete that picture asap.” I wasn’t lying. Kira had thrown her hat into the ring too. Garcia had the fear factor, and after today, people were a little scared of Gem, since she came off unhinged, but most were scared about Garcia’s threat of hackers. I was thinking the details hadn’t been told to either the principal or Cohen and Amalia’s uncle or that would’ve gotten to my uncle and then he’d be asking me about these said hackers. But again, Kira’s power at the top helped too.

“I’ve got a feeling some of the weight that happened in your school might not have happened if you weren’t there.”

I frowned, knowing what he was trying to say. It was his way of thanking me for being me, a total dick and at the top. “Save your breath. I wasn’t even there.”

“You know what I’m saying.”

Yeah. I sighed. I did. “It wasn’t me this time, Miles. The girls saved the day this time.”

He got quiet before sighing from his end. “I got the report. Amalia finally tapped out fifteen minutes ago. Angel called, asked if I’d head over. I swung by to grab a few things, saw you weren’t there, and now I know where you are. You’re at the gym?”

“Cohen likes the river.”

“I remembered. If you use the gym, make sure everything is turned off and lock up before you leave. You got me?”

I took my keys out and opened the door. “Got you.”

“Hey. I got a call today from your mother.”

I closed the door again. “Yeah?”

“She said some execs were in town, said they saw you.”

Shit. “I swung by for food.”

“You shouldn’t go there anymore.”

“It’s the popular place to eat. I don’t go there, I’ll look weird for not going.”

“Just say you’re cutting weight.”

“They got salads there. Or I could do what I normally do when I’m cutting weight, I eat water.” He didn’t get it. “It’s weird if I don’t go.”

“Look, all I’m saying is that if word got to your mom, then you know word got to your grandfather. He knows you’re here.”

“I wasn’t hiding.”

“We weren’t broadcasting you were here either.”

I shook my head. “If he wants to know where I am, you know he just needs to make a call. They have an entire division of private detectives. He knew I was here the second your sister booked my flight.”

“Yeah. Well, I’m just bringing it up because there might be more drama coming from him. I want you to know.”

I was done with this conversation, at least this portion of it. “Then get ready, Uncle, because all the bullshit he pulled trying to make you live the life he chose is what he’s going to do for me. This will be just round two.”
