His somber voice draws my gaze back to his eyes. “I hate that you waited so long, Kae.”

“No.” He caresses my jaw. “It’s not. And for that…” He drops a kiss on my neck. “I’m going to make it up to you.” Another kiss on my chest. My toes curl when his lips brush my sweaty skin. “For the rest of my life.” Lower. “Until.” Lower. “We’re even.”

The heat flushes through my skin. The onslaught begins.
Slowly at first. Then harder.
I scream. The kind of high, loud, frightening sound that would draw concern and investigation.
