“She’s good. Better than good. I’m just letting you know we made it to the hospital. They’re taking her out of the medic-van now. The nurses are really helpful. I—” He pauses. “You really didn’t need to do all that, Kastle. It was too much.”

“She’s my niece. Of course I’d do all that.” I glance up and study Kaelyn as she pulls on a fresh pair of shorts and a T-shirt.

Unable to keep my hands to myself, I push off the bed. Stride over. Wrap my free hand around her. She relaxes into me, her fingers dancing over my wrist.

“Soon as I finalize this job, I’m paying you back,” Heath says.

“Don’t insult me, Heath. It’s not a loan.”

Kaelyn turns in my arms. Her fingers slip around my neck and latch on. I lower my forehead to hers and close my eyes. Inhale her fragrance. She smells like me. Like us. Something new and different and irresistible. Her sheets are soaked in that scent. So are the kitchen counters.

Heath teases me over the phone. “You showing off because you got cash to burn?”

“It’s not like I’d spend it on myself. Besides Kaelyn, I don’t have anyone else to spoil.” I press a sloppy kiss to her neck.

She giggles.

Shock ripples through Heath’s voice. “Did I just hear her? She with you this early?”

“Yes.” I sway with Kaelyn, my eyes closed in contentment as I answer proudly, “Yes, she is.”

Heath clears her throat. “I’ll get off the phone then.”

“We’ll come visit later.”

“Don’t you dare bring another stuffed animal, Kastle. I mean it.”

“No promises.” I laugh.

My brother grumbles under his breath about how hard-headed I am and then he hangs up.

I toss the phone on the bed so I can wrap both my hands around Kaelyn’s waist. Her body melts against mine. So soft. So strong. I hum a song beneath my breath. A thrill winds through me when I see the tiny smile that curves her lips.

Making her happy fills me with so much joy I wonder if I’m going insane. My purpose is to protect her. To provide for her. To push her towards each and every one of her dreams.

It’s embedded in my code. Written in my soul.

I see her and I see my past. My present. My future.

It’s incredible how blessed I am. How extraordinarily fortunate to have someone like Kaelyn in my arms. In my bed. In my heart.

Her smile pushes her cheeks up. Makes her eyes squint. “Do you know the song you’re humming?”

“Nope.” I keep dancing with her, my voice low. “What is it?”

“It’s from the The Lion King. The one that plays when Simba meets Nala.” Her smile gets even wider. “When they roll around in the grass.”

“Is that a suggestion?”

“It’s art in motion.” She indicates the way we’re swaying. “You’re making love to me.”

I work hard to control myself. Work hard to keep swaying rather than throw her on the sheets that smell like lust. We have errands to run. Meetings. People to see. And Kaelyn’s there tempting me with those eyes…

Screw it.

I’m taking those clothes off. I’m going too spread her legs wide and put my tongue on her. My fingers. My body. I’m going to ruin those sheets. Make her sweat till the blankets coat her like a second skin. I’m going to make her beg for me, groan, bend, twist, and cry more than she did last night.

But then there’s a knock on the door.
