She groans. Pushes her head out the window. “You’re too hot right now, Kastle. I can’t breathe.”

I laugh and take her hand in mine. My thumb grazes against her knuckles. “I doubled our profits.”

She groans.

I lower my voice. Bring her hand to my lips to kiss it. “I broadened our acquisition portfolio. Increased our asset intake by eighty percent.”

Kaelyn starts panting. “You’re evil.” She pushes my hand away. “Stop touching me or I’m going to make sure you’re late to that meeting. And then you’ll be in trouble.”

I chuckle and put both hands on the wheel. “I just wish you weren’t dragged into this fight.”

“Are you kidding? Fighting beside you is exactly where I want to be.”

“Sweet-talker.”

“You have no idea.” She winks.

“I love you,” I say, unable to keep the words buttoned inside when they press against my soul, my head, my lips.

“Of course you do.” She tosses her hair over her shoulder.

I laugh. “Is that it?”

She grins. “I love you too.”

That’ll never get old.

I love you.

Such a simple thing. Such a big thing.

It pains me to let her go, but I drop Kaelyn off at Brenna’s. They’ve been working from her boss’s apartment these past few days. According to Kaelyn, it’s not too comfortable, so I’m planning on offering a section of my building to her and Brenna.

If I know my best friend, she’ll fight me tooth and nail. Which is why I’m going to offer that deal to Brenna first. Get her on board. And then I’ll deal with Kaelyn’s wrath after the fact.

A smile fixes on my lips as I head to my meeting. It takes a lot to keep focused when all I can think about is Kaelyn, but I manage to get through it with no slip ups.

After, I meet Kaelyn at the hospital.

My brother greets me at the door of Glory’s room. “You guys came separately?”

“That a crime?”

“You don’t have to put in so much effort. I’m aware that you’re together.”

“Shut up.” I throw an air punch.

Kaelyn giggles from her perch on the edge of Glory’s bed. “I told him my boss dropped me off, but he didn’t believe me.”

“Because I’m not an idiot.” Heath rolls his eyes.

“That’s debatable.” I smirk when he shields his hand and flips me off at an angle that Glory can’t see.

My niece giggles. “Uncle Kastle!”

“Hey, sweetie.” I hold the gift bag behind my back. “Guess what I bought?”

Glory’s eyes brighten. She’s sitting up, fluffed by a bunch of pillows. Her tawny-colored skin is a sharp contrast to the white sheets and her short black hair.
