“Yeah.” I tear my eyes away from Kaelyn even though it’s one of the hardest things to do. “What’s wrong?” I ask when I get into the hallway.

Heath shoves his hand into his back pocket. “Dad keeps trying to reach me.”

“What does he want?”

“I think… he wants to meet Glory.”

I stiffen. “And what do you want?”

“I want Glory to be safe and happy.” He rubs the bridge of his nose. “I’m worried. She’s my baby girl. She’s mine, but… legally, he’s her father. I’m just her uncle.”

“This whole thing is screwed up.”

“Yeah.”

“What do you want to do?”

“I’m not sure. I was hoping you had some thoughts?”

“I want what’s best for Glory.”

“Me too.”

“That’s why I’m letting you make the decisions.” I slap his back. “I’ll stand with you. Whatever you choose.”

He bobs his head. “Appreciate that.”

“No problem. We’re family.”

“Family.” Heath nods to the door. “You and Kaelyn, huh?”

I follow him back in. “It’s a recent thing.”

“It’s years in the making. I’m really happy for you two. I was waiting to see when you would wise up.”

I laugh. “What did you bet?”

“That she’d dump you eventually and find someone who appreciated her.”

“Then I’m glad you were wrong.”

“So am I.” He squeezes my shoulder. Then he turns to Glory. “Ma’am, I think it’s about time for your nap.”

“No.” Glory pouts and crosses her arms over her chest.

“Yes.” Heath strides forward. “I’m gonna have to kick Uncle Kastle and Aunt Kaelyn out.”

We beg and cajole with Glory to stay for ten more minutes, but Heath is a drill sergeant. As soon as the time is up, he kicks us out.

We leave the hospital and Kaelyn slips on her shades. “Got any plans for today?”

“My schedule is all yours.”

“Good.” She tucks her finger into my collar and kisses me.

“Why is that good?” I murmur, rubbing my thumb over her cheek.

She looks up at me with darkening eyes. “Because I have a whole lot I want to do to you, Kastle.”
