I panic. Not me?

No way.

“Wouldn’t be as convincing.” I shake my head.

“You’re saying I’m not a good actor?”

“You can’t play games as well as I can.” I smirk.

“Mature.”

“Says the guy who sulks every time he loses UNO.”

“You cheat.”

“I do not. And don’t try to distract me. I’m fake asking you out here.”

His lips curl up in that sexy half-smirk. “Shouldn’t the guy ask the girl first?”

“That’s so archaic, Kastle.” I laugh.

“But it’s what you deserve.” He studies me. “You deserve to be pursued.”

My heart flips over. “That makes me feel special.”

“You are special, Kae.” He squeezes my hand.

“We protect each other.”

“Always.”

“Then there’s no risk—”

“It’s a big risk.” Anxiety crosses his face.

Okay, I know when to push and when to pull. Right now, I need to stop. Give him a breath. It’s out there. The suggestion’s tainting the atmosphere. He won’t forget it and I won’t either.

I lean back in my seat. “The food’s taking long.”

“It always does.”

“Should we start the movie?”

He stares at me and shakes his head. “What am I going to do with you?”

“Love me.” I blow him a kiss.

He shakes his head again.

Love me, Kastle. And let me love you too.

But that sincere plea won’t ever leave my lips.

If Kastle finds out how I feel, I’ll lose him.

And if I lose my best friend then, I really will lose everything.
