By the time we call a truce, we’re both soaked to the bone.

“Come here.” I bring her into my chest so we can share warmth.

She wraps her arms around my waist and rests her head on me, right above the lock and key tattoo.

I rub my hand on her back and try to keep it together.

This woman—

This friend… is too precious.

I can’t destroy what we have with dirty thoughts and strange feelings.

Kaelyn

Mom’s in the driveway watering her flowers when we pull up to the curb. She takes her gloves off her dainty hands and shades her face with one palm while she waves with the other.

Kastle shuts the engine and goes to open his door.

I frown at him. “Aren’t you late? We spent way more time at the beach than we should have.”

“So?” He shrugs. “I’m the boss.”

“Which means you can play hooky all day if you want to?”

“Which means I can work overtime if I have to.” He flashes me that gorgeous smile that always makes my heart race. “I’ll just drop in real quick and say hi to your mom and then I’ll be off.”

“You’re just trying to see if she made any pies today.”

“That too.” He winks.

For a second, I forget how to breathe.

Jameson.

Is.

Hot.

It’s unfair really.

People shouldn’t be insanely talented, smart, rich, kind and good-looking. One of those gifts should drop to make room for the rest. He has it all and it’s the source of my undying frustration.
