Slowly, he rolls off me and leans against the pillows, his hands behind his head and the sheets tumbling around his big thighs as he does nothing to hide how ready he is for me.

Heat stings my cheeks.

The man is so confident, it’s sickening.

Though, to be fair, Hawk has a lot to be confident about.

Scooting off the bed, I hurry to the bathroom and close the door. Gripping the edges of the sink, I stare at the girl with the voluminous curly hair and sweat-stained cheeks.

My eyes fall down to my shoulders, stomach and legs. It surprises me that Hawk’s name isn’t tattooed all over my brown skin. I declared myself his so much last night I thought it would physically manifest.

I throw cold water on my face.

My body doesn’t understand why I’m trying to cool down.

It throbs.

For him.

I press my thighs together and wiggle a finger at the panting woman in the mirror. “Enough.”

It shouldn’t have happened.

And it won’t again.

This is not my place. Hawk’s not mine. Linda’s insistence that we deserve each other is wishful thinking. If we were meant to be, why is there a whole freaking movie about him and some other girl?

I have to protect myself. Have to be smart.

I open the bathroom door and step out.

My eyes trail his bedroom. It’s huge. Green walls. White curtains. A desk. A television. The bed is the biggest I’ve ever seen, though I should have known that by the way Hawk was tossing me around like a ragdoll.

When I look back at Hawk, I find him watching me. His gaze runs lazily over my body, slipping down to my toes and back up to my head as if it’s his first time seeing me naked. As if he hadn’t just been blowing my mind from night until dawn.

“Where are my panties?” I mumble to myself, hunting through the room for my discarded drawers to escape his surveillance.

Hawk folds his arms over his chest. “What are you doing?”

“Getting dressed.”

“Come back to bed.”

“No.”

He growls.

I find my underwear on the floor by the edge of the bed and slide my foot into the first hole.

Hawk remains seated against the headboard, but his eyes darken when he says, “You’re wasting your time.”

“With what?” I pull the panties up.

“Putting that on.” He arches an eyebrow. “I’ll tear them off again. And this time, I’ll make sure to leave them in pieces.”

Heat sears my belly. I try to pretend I’m not affected. “It’s been three days since I’ve called Catherine. She must be worried.” Reaching for my bra, I snap it on. “Kaz’s—I mean, my dad cut off my phone service so I couldn’t reach her. That reminds me, I need to buy a new phone today.”

“Done.”
