“Shanel’s old roommate. Can you bring her here?”

“Who?”

I turn to Fitz. “The girl who spilled coffee on your shirt.”

Recognition flares in his eyes. “I remember.”

“And I need a new phone.”

“Why? You already have the latest one.”

“It’s not for me. It’s for Shanel. Her father cut off her service.”

“Done.”

“Thanks.”

“And about Miles—”

“I’ll consider it.”

Barclay’s smile widens. “Shanel’s a good influence.”

“Don’t get any ideas.”

He just grins.

I send them on their way and then head downstairs to find Shanel.

Her door is locked.

I knock on it. “Shanel!”

No response.

“Shanel, open the door.”

“Sorry. I’m being held prisoner by a jerk who listens to no one but himself. Come back when you have a visitor’s pass.”

“You’re being ridiculous.”

She hauls the door open. Curly hair tumbles into her furious brown eyes. “Just so you know, I’m not your property.”

“I never said you were.”

“You keep calling me ‘yours’,” she snaps.

“Because you are.”

“No I’m not.”

“You had a very different opinion last night.”

“Last night was… a different set of circumstances.”

I lean against the door and smirk.

She sucks her bottom lip into her mouth. “Stop looking at me like that.”
