Page 168 of Be My Wife

My mind races, struggling to pick up all the threads running through it.

I divorced my wife—

Pushed away the woman I love—

Gave up my only chance at happiness—

For a misunderstanding?

I dial Elizabeth.

“Come on, Liz.” I hold the phone to my ear and listen to it ring. “Pick up. Pick up. Pick up.”

It goes to voicemail.

I curse and toss the phone into my passenger seat. Jerking on my seatbelt, I back out of the parking lot like a maniac. Ten minutes later, I storm through the doors of our office.

Riley shoots to her feet. “Mr. Harrington.”

My gaze skids past her to the empty desk behind her.

“Where’s Elizabeth?”

Riley’s eyelashes flutter. “Um...”

“Where is she?”

“She took the day off. Sir, is everything okay?”

I bite back a curse.

Levy steps out of his office. His eyes widen when he sees my furious expression. “Brogan, what’s going on?”

I spin around without answering him and hurry out of the building.

Pink and orange taints the sky as I rush to my car.

The sun is setting.

It’ll be dark soon.

I drive to Elizabeth’s apartment, calling her phone the entire way.

She doesn’t pick up.

I park haphazardly in the parking lot and thump up the stairs.

Her door appears in front of me.

I pound on it.

“Elizabeth!”

No answer.

Either she’s ignoring me or…

“The wedding rehearsal.” I back away from her apartment and pull out my phone to call her mom.
