“You picked the wrong night to mess with me!”

Suddenly, he springs forth like an arrow from a bow, picking me up and slamming me against the wall. It hurts, but my body is still hardened from my previous fights, against individuals far more imposing than the owner of a silly bakery.

He may have the natural strength advantage, but I dwarf him in every other aspect. I immediately duck as he throws a punch, slipping between his legs as he hollers in pain.

Gasping, he turns around. I kick him where it hurts the most. He throws a hand back against the wall, perhaps to save himself from falling.

I kick his legs out from underneath him. As soon as he’s on the ground, I unleash blow after blow, each time aiming for a different spot. He catches one of my fists and flips me around so that he’s on top.

Before he lands a punch, I grab him by the collar of his clothing, pulling him close. I headbutt him so hard that my own head is ringing. His face goes expressionless before he falls beside me.

Shaking it off, I get to my feet. I grab my knife from its sheath, raising it high with the intention of taking his life. I don’t care if I have no job after this. No one assaults me and gets away with it.

My knife is whisked away from my grip, and before I have the chance to react, I’m thrown off of Tonnolun. I throw a punch at the person who has dared to intervene, but they catch it.

I look up to see Azron standing tall over me, his entire hand encapsulating my fist. He pushes me towards a nearby Vylco who catches me as I stumble.

“What the fuck are you guys doing here?” I blurt out.

Neither of them answer. Instead, Azron slowly advances on my boss, who is regaining consciousness. He rears his head up, his eyes widening at the sight of Azron. Perhaps he thinks he’s hallucinating, that I’ve morphed into a literal demon.

“How dare you?” snarls my unwanted savior.

“She… she enticed me, and then she shoved me off!” insists Tonnolun.

“First you assault Elia, then you insult me with your lies? I should kill you for daring to lay a hand on her!”

Vylco steps closer to my boss. “Get on your feet!”

Tonnolun raises his hands in a gesture of surrender as he stands. “This is dreadful behavior! I have the mind to fire you for this, Elia!” shouts my boss.

“Why?” asks Vylco. “Because she wouldn’t fuck you?”

Azron clenches his fist and grabs Tonnolun by the throat. “Tell me why I shouldn’t take your life!”

Tonnolun curls up like a dead yillese as Azron yells at him, but Vylco interjects.

“Hold on, let’s not be so hasty now. You’re Elia’s boss, so what are you going to do to make this right?”

Tonnolun’s fearful gaze glances at me, his face cringing as I return a look of bloodlust.

“She can keep her job at the bakery, and I swear I won’t go near her!”

Azron and Vylco look at one another then back at my sniveling boss. Without consulting me, they agree to his terms. Tonnolun scurries away without a second thought.

“You fuckers!” I snarl. Azron and Vylco spin around in surprise. “You let him get away.”

The startled look on Azron’s face turns to one of anger. He opens his mouth, but I interject before he says anything.

“Give me back my fucking knife.”

AZRON

Icould rip him apart right here and right now. I spent years learning how to torture the xaphan. I am quite sure that those same tactics would work on a demon.

I know exactly how to make him lose his mind. I know just how to hurt him.
