“All the same shit as usual. I haven’t seen you at Murphy’s for a while. Where have you been?” He asks, referring to the Irish bar on campus that I love.

“I’ve got a second job. It’s taking up my time.”

“A second job? Another strip club? I’ll come check it out.”

“Nah, it’s just at a newsagency.”

“A newsagency? What for?”

“Paying off a debt.” I say vaguely.

“Sass, you know I can pay your debts. Hell, I can payyou, so you don’t even have to work anymore. I’ve offered a million times. Why won’t you let me help?”

“Do you know me at all?” I tease. “Besides, you usually offer me money straight after we sleep together, and I’m pretty sure that’s called prostitution in most countries.”

Chase’s family is rich. Billionaire rich. They own half the school we are attending and probably own half of Australia as well. The concept of working a dead-end job to get through college is foreign to him. But he’s a generous billionaire, and from the moment I met him, he’s been offering to pay my way for me. It’s sweet of him to want to help, but seeing as our deal was sleeping together with no strings attached, adding money into the mix was just too murky. Not that I’d take his money, anyway. I’d prefer to die on the street from starvation than accept help from anyone.

“It’s not prostitution,” he says. “The fucking is just for fun. Not for money.”

“Still a firm no. But thanks for offering. I appreciate it.”

“Maybe I should buy a strip club and you could be my headlining act,” he muses to himself. I shake my head, grinning.

“Chase, I won’t be stripping forever. It’s a temporary job. So don’t go buying strip clubs for my benefit.”

“Well, I think I’d benefit from it more than you,” he leers and I swat his arm playfully.

“Met any girls?” I ask.

“Would you be jealous if I had?”

“No, I’d be happy for you.”

Chase smirks, as though he doesn’t believe me.

“No one important,” he says. “No one like you, anyway.”

I don’t respond to that. Chase is a flirt at the best of times, but when he’s drunk, it goes into turbo mode. I’m surprised he’s kept it fairly civil so far.

We round a corner and I can see my dorm in the distance. We aren’t too far from his place, either. He’s the only kid on campus who has a penthouse apartment overlooking the whole town. But I guess when you’re also the only billionaire on campus, it just goes with the territory.

Chase peels away slightly and begins walking toward his apartment. Not my dorm.

“Where are you going?” He asks when he realises I’ve stopped at the corner.

“Home. Thanks for walking me. I can take it from here.” I hold my hand out for my tote bag, but instead of giving it to me, Chase takes my hand in his and pulls me towards him. He wraps his arms around me in an embrace. I can smell the whiskey on his breath.

“Aren’t you coming back to my place for a nightcap?” He grins down at me.

“No. I’m going to head home.” I unwrap myself from his arms and step back.

“Why?” He frowns.

“Because we both know what you mean by nightcap,” I sigh, folding my arms across my chest.

“And what’s the problem with that? I just thought, you know, it’s been a while.”

“Chase,” I exhale, trying to be patient. “I told you we aren’t doing that anymore, remember?”
