“There’s no placement, but I did rent the apartment the Hartwell Agency showed you for the next month. For us. Or at least, that’s what I was hoping.” He closed the distance between us, taking my hands in his. “I want you to go to Paris. With me.” He stroked the back of my hand with his thumb. “I’ve been miserable without you,mi cielo.”

He cupped my cheek, and I leaned into his touch, aching for him. “I’ve missed you too. So much. And I’m sorry.”

“You are?” He frowned. “Why?”

“For ever making you feel like what we had wasn’t enough.” I took a shaky breath. “I want to be with you, whatever that looks like. You are more important to me than anything.”

He smiled then, sliding his hand down my back. “That’s funny.”

I tilted my head. “What’s funny?”

“I’ve had a similar realization. And I want to be withyou—whatever that looks like. Kids, no kids. Marriage or not. I want it all, Kendall. With you.”

Had he really just said he wanted kids? Or that he was at least open to the possibility?

“But…what’s different now? What changed?”

“It wasn’t that I didn’t want more children. I guess…” He blew out a breath. “For so long, I’d given up on that dream. And then you offered it to me, and I was scared. So I put up roadblocks. I was too old. I told myself that Jude would never support it and it would put a strain on our relationship. And so on.”

“And now?” I asked, practically holding my breath.

“I realized they were just that—excuses.”

“But what about…?”

“Jude?” He chuckled. “A lot’s changed since you left. He told me to do what’s best for me. And if that meant growing a family with you, then he supported it.”

I gaped at him.What?

Knox smirked. “Better close that mouth or I’ll put it to good use.”

Even as my mind worked to process his words, my blood simmered with lust. I licked my lips as I reached out to wrap my arms around his waist. “Mm.”

“Kendall,” he groaned. “There’s so much more I want to tell you, but you’re distracting me.”

I smirked, loving the effect I had on him even after all this time apart. Because I felt it too. I’d always felt it. And I was done denying what I wanted.

He slid his fingers into my hair, leaning his forehead down to mine. “Tell me it’s not too late.”

I smiled, reaching up to place my hands on his forearms. “It’s not too late. But there’s also no rush. I’m happy just as we are.”

“I love you.” His voice was clogged with emotion.

“I love you, Knox,” I said through my tears. “Only ever you.”

He claimed my lips with his, and it was a homecoming. A promise for the future. I lost myself in his touch, flattening my body to his. Needing to be closer to him still.

Someone cleared their throat, and we broke apart, breathing heavily. My cheeks heated at being caught, and I buried my face in Knox’s chest.

“We’ve been cleared for takeoff,” Tabitha said. “That is, if you’re ready.”

Knox pulled back, glancing down at me with a smile of contentment unlike any I’d ever seen on his handsome face. “Are you ready,mi cielo?”

My answering grin was huge. “Definitely.”

I didn’t care where we were going, so long as we were together.
