A muscle in his neck twitched, and he crossed his arms over his chest. “Why did you tell her you were with Jude?”

I threw up my hands. “I didn’t!Hecame to the hospital and brought her flowers when she got mono. Andsheassumed he paid her bill.”

Knox frowned. “I’m glad Jude’s been a good friend, but I don’t like the idea of your mom hoping you’ll give him another chance.”

I massaged my temples, a headache brewing. This was such a mess. The secrecy was wearing on me. I hadn’t realized just how much until the other night at the gala. Until now.

I let my hands fall to my sides, slumping in exhaustion. “I’ve tried to tell her it’s not happening, but it’s not like I can tell her about us,” I said. “If only I’d never…”

“Dated him?” Knox asked quietly.

I nodded, hating that I couldn’t avoid bringing Jude into the conversation. Whether we mentioned him or not, the guilt was still there. He would always be part of the equation because he was Knox’s son.

Knox pushed away from the desk and grasped my chin, his blue eyes piercing in their intensity. “You may have dated him first, but you always belonged tome.”

I was frustrated with our situation and the fact that we could only ever be a secret. And I was mad at myself for falling for him. But all I wanted right now—all I needed—was for him to kiss me. To distract me from my frustrations and my fears. To make me feel whole in the way only he could.

My eyes fluttered closed, and I waited for Knox to kiss me. To claim me with his mouth as he had with his words.

But instead, he tightened his grip on my chin and rasped, “Say it.”

“Say what?” I asked, peering up at him.

“Tell me you’re mine.”

“I’m yours.” I gasped when he grabbed my ass with his free hand, pulling me into him. Letting me feel his desire.

“Good.” He rested his hands on my waist. “Now prove it.”

My body ignited, incredibly turned on by his words. “Here? Now?”

We’d always been very careful in our interactions at the office, never wanting anyone to suspect the true nature of our relationship.

“Yes.” The black of his pupils nearly eclipsed the blue of his iris. “Did you really think you could storm into my office in those fucking pants and not provoke me?”

I glanced down, only then remembering what I was wearing. Yoga pants and a T-shirt. I sighed, wishing I’d thought this through. Wishing I’d been more professional.

“And why aren’t you wearing my earrings?” he asked, turning me so my back was to him. “And my necklace.”

He held me to him with one arm, using his free hand to rub me through my pants.

Oh god.

“God isn’t here,” he said, making me realize I’d said the words aloud. “I am. And it damn well better be my name on your lips when you come.”

My mouth went dry at his words, loving the way he could be both possessive and gentle. Demanding and loving.

My eyes darted to the door, knowing it could open at any moment. “This is dangerous.”

“I. Don’t. Fucking. Care,” he growled, sliding his hand inside my pants. His gentle touch contradicted the harshness of his tone. “And the fact that you’re this wet says you don’t either.”

“Knox,” I gasped when he speared me with his fingers.

He worked me into a frenzy, the pleasure building fast and furious. I couldn’t control it, any more than I could my feelings for this man. I was on a high-speed express train. Trying to stop this orgasm was as pointless as trying to stop myself from falling for Knox. So I let go. But before I could cry out, he covered my mouth with his hand.

He spun me, pushing me back onto the desk and pulling my pants down over my hips. I didn’t know what had gotten into him, but I liked it.

He spread my legs wide before standing back to admire the view. “Mi cielo.” He rubbed a hand over his beard, the other pressing down on his cock. “How did I get so lucky?”
