I look up and glance around. I didn’t realize I’d stopped walking to listen. “Go ahead, A. I’ll be there in a minute.”

Aiden shrugs and starts toward the restaurant.

I replay the message twice more. I’m pissed at Olivia for disappearing without a word, but I assume she’s aware of the fallout that came after I killed Frankie. One of my men had to kill a hitman who got too close. Then my house was fire-bombed while my family was inside. My retaliation for that was swift.

Now we’ve brokered an uneasy peace, and things have settled. I’d planned to look for Olivia, wondering whether there would be some young boyfriend or even a husband I’d need to get out of my way. Doesn’t sound like it, which is good. The thought of anyone else touching her… Yeah, that would not turn out well for the guy.

So, the fucking stalker seems to be back. Someone needs to end him, and I’m just the man to do it. But considering the way she left, I’ll expect Olivia to show her gratitude with her legs spread after her body’s been facedown over my lap for punishment. My cock hardens at the thought. Even after almost two years, my hunger for her never quits.

I listen a third time, and this time my muscles tighten reflexively at the little squawk. There are no other outdoor noises in the background.

I look around, concentrating on the sounds around me. Horns and car engines. Birds tweet, which is not the sound I heard on the voicemail.

I listen one final time, raising the volume. Everything inside me goes still as I realize that what I think I’m hearing in the background is a baby.

Hers? And if so, is the baby mine or someone else’s? For her sake, the answer had better be what I want it to be.

“Li, what are you doing?”

My head jerks up to find my brother staring at me from a few feet away.

“What?”

Aiden runs a hand through his lion’s mane of hair. “You make a nice target standing still on the sidewalk like a human statue performer.”

He’s right. I should get off the street. There’s supposed to be a truce, but it’s never a good idea for me to make myself an easy target.

As I start to move, I’m only half paying attention. That little sound has me distracted.

I walk with Aiden to the restaurant. Once we’re inside, I excuse myself and leave him alone at the table.

Moving to a corner for privacy, I call Killian. It rings so many times it goes to voicemail. The fucking kid’s probably still asleep. I call again.

“Hello,” he says in a groggy voice.

“Morning, sunshine. It’s fucking noon. How about you get up? I need a hand with something.”

“Like what?” He’s got Aiden’s baritone, though he looks more like Luke than Aiden. “If you tell me the cars need washing, Liam, I’m gonna end this fucking call.”

That makes me laugh. Killian was getting in so much trouble Ma sent him to stay at Luke’s. That’s an oil-and-water matchup if there ever was one. So Killian quickly moved his ass to Aiden’s where rules barely exist.

“Aiden thinks you’ve gotten pretty good at navigating the dark side of the web.”

Killian’s silent for a moment. “I never said that.”

“Yeah, well, that’s what I need. Can you do it?”

“Is this a paying gig?”

My brows rise. “Depends. Are we still brothers? And is our mutual brother letting you live with him rent-free?”

There’s a low muffled curse. “What do you need?”

“I’ve got a phone number. Can you find out where the girl it belongs to is living? And whether she lives alone or with someone?”

“Yeah, of course. A reverse lookup? Come on. Why don’t you give me something worth getting off the couch for?”

“It may not be as easy as you think. She’s been in hiding. You’ll need more than a general search to find her.” I know because I’ve tried, I think.
