“Freshman. I’ll be a sophomore once fall semester starts.”

“And that makes you how old?”

“Nineteen.”

Thank Christ because I’m not completely sure I would’ve been able to resist even if she’d been seventeen. My eyes drop to her pale pink lips, which are the color of bubblegum. I wonder how they would look wrapped around my cock.

“Good,” I say.

“Is it?”

My brows rise slowly. Can she be this innocent? And why is that thought more enticing than it’s ever been?

“You look like you could be under eighteen, and that would’ve been a shame.”

“Because?” Her lovely brown eyes are wide, but I think she realizes what I’m getting at and just wants to hear me say it.

“Because you would be too young for me to take home tonight.”

Her pretty mouth falls open. “Take me home? That’s fast.” Her light chuckle is half nervous, half amused, and I like the way pink rises in her cheeks. She’s as fresh as a berry still on the vine. And I could definitely use a taste of that.

“What’ll you have to drink, Liv?” I ask, signaling Seamus.

“A Coke?” After a beat she says, “No. An amaretto sour?”

“Are you asking me? Because my position on amaretto isn’t especially favorable.”

She laughs and glances at my half empty glass. “Well, what are you having?”

I slide my glass to her. “It’s a single malt Scotch from the Highlands. Let’s not mention that to the kinfolk.”

Liv’s small nose sniffs the Lagavulin, and she takes a sip. She draws in a slow breath after she swallows, and her eyes widen. “It tastes like smoke.”

“Indeed. From the peat fires.”

“I’ll have some.”

That draws a smile from me. It’s a big drink for a slip of a girl, but I’m glad she likes the taste. People either love it or hate it. And since I’m sure to taste of it tonight, it’s good she doesn’t fall into the latter category.

When the whisky comes, she sips it slowly, which gives us time to learn about each other. To a degree.

Olivia did her last year of high school online to take care of a mother sick with cancer. One who’s now passed. She’s using the modest life insurance payout to put herself through school, as she promised her mother she would.

“Mom didn’t finish college, and she really wants me to. So that’s my highest priority right now.”

“What are you studying?”

“Hospitality services. Hopefully for a career in hotel management or something along those lines. Maynard University has a degree program that includes partnerships with Hotel and Tourism management schools in Hong Kong and Switzerland. That’s my dream program. But there are some other good programs, too, if I don’t get accepted at Maynard.”

“When it’s time to apply, let me know. Someone I know will know someone there with pull, and I’ll help you get in.”

Her head tilts. “You think so?”

“Yeah, I know a lot of people.”

“That would be amazing. Assuming you haven’t forgotten all about your offer to help me by the time I apply.”

My eyes study her for several beats before I say, “A promise from me to you has no expiration, Olivia.”
