“My husband had Beast at Chaps to do that for him, but he did manage to throw a few out himself.”

Travis leaned over and kissed Lonnie. “Thanks, Lane.”

Travis was a big man, over six feet tall, with coppery red hair and drop dead gorgeous, but Lonnie was even more handsome. Lonnie was a First Nations person. I wasn’t sure what tribe he belonged to either. I really had to start asking.

His hair was long and jet black, his face perfectly native, tan, high cheekbones, and big dark eyes. He was wearing a white harness and white jeans, which was bright against his darker skin. I’d always thought Lonnie was a brilliantly beautiful man.

Together, they made a lovely couple, and their love was evident to anyone. “I’m so glad to see you both. I’ve missed my friends from Denver.”

“We miss you too,” Lonnie said, grabbing my hand with both of his. “Brian and I were worried about you.”

“No need to now. You sent me to the best place, with the best people.”

Travis boasted, “My Lane is good at matching people and places.”

“He is, very much so. Where’s Brian, Morgan, and Pez? I thought they’d be here.”

“Brian had a patient that needed him,” Travis explained. “They were all bummed, but you know Brian. He’s not going to turn down someone that needs him.”

Rick came to the table and took his seat after shaking hands with the newcomers. “Your show was fantastic. Travis, if I may call you that?”

“Of course!”

“You and that bullwhip seem to become one when you’re using it.”

“It’s a favorite for us, but one we don’t do often. We have two very active kids, so with Lonnie recovering from that, it makes it hard to chase them.”

“I can understand. I have two boys too, though one is about to head off for college.”

Lonnie suddenly paled. “No. God, I don’t want to so much as think about that. Lanie is only seven, so he’s not quite ready for college yet, but he’s grown so fast.”

“They do. I have another boy, three. I already see him as a teenager, then leaving and my heart just can’t take it.”

Lonnie’s eyes fell on me. “And you? How are you handling…well, being with a man with kids?”

“I love it, and love them.”

Rick confided, “I want him to adopt Colby, but not until we’ve been together a little longer. We want to make sure nothing can happen. My boys have lost mothers, so I don’t want them to lose a father.”

“A father,” Travis said, staring at me. “I can see Kanan would make a good dad. Congratulations, you both.”

Damon stopped at the table. “Rick, Burke said you and Kan are doing a show?”

“If that’s okay.”

“Are you kidding? Seeing our mayor up there?”

He left laughing and I leaned into Rick, snuggling him as best I could. “Rick is going to do something wicked to me.”

“Can’t wait to see it,” Travis said quickly.

Chapter Thirty-Two

BeingonstagewithRick was strange at first. I think I worried more than him that somehow it would get out about him doing a sex show in the local sex club. Then he took off his leather shirt after tying me to the suspended cuffs that were attached to the beam on the ceiling.

I was still wearing my briefs, but Damon had just handed Rick scissors, so I knew they wouldn’t be on me long.

I wasn’t on the stage dancing, but I was still able to hear the music in my mind. My nerves were soothed from that, and suddenly I was far from the crowd, the stage itself and I was living inside of a love song that was about to become a screaming rock tune.
