“Please, Kanan. Please, don’t think badly of me for this.”

I got the envelope open and set aside the contract for the lifestyle. That was the least of my worries at that moment. The other was a legal document that spelled out I was to be given five hundred thousand dollars if I ever left him.

“I don’t understand, Rick.”

“It’s not much, I know, but we’re millionaires, not billionaires. Most of the money I have is either going to my sons or back into the business.”

“No, I don’t understand why you think I’d even want this. Have I ever indicated to you that I wanted your money? Is this so I don’t try to sue you for more? Because it’s unnecessary. I don’t want your money.”

His eyes grew hard, and he grabbed my face. “Read the damn thing, but maybe you should read the other contract first.”

I wasn’t afraid of him in the least little way, but that act of dominance turned me on fiercely. I knew how dumb that was, but I couldn’t help it.

I took the lifestyle contract back on top of the others and started reading through it, feeling my smile come after the second paragraph and just grow from there.

He was asserting his dominance. He wanted me to have nothing on my plate except looking after him and the kids, of course, but I was also free to do as I liked when I wasn’t with them.

I was given vast amounts of free time, including time to work, if I chose to.

But the times I wasn’t free…

“Rick, this is…”

“Too much. I knew it.”

“No,” I said, laughing. “This is…perfect.”

Rick had written in that I was in charge, I said when and where, but once I gave my consent, I was his totally. At night, in our room, or wherever we were together, if he said one word, a word of my choosing, I would be in submission to him. That was it.

Along with the lists of those things we’d already spoken about, my limits and his, the contract basically said I was his but still my own person.

“You wrote this?”

“I am skilled at contracts. My uncle was a lawyer and told me how to draft them to save myself a ton of money on attorney’s fees.”

I laughed as he waved Gwen over, and she arrived with alcohol-free wine. “Sorry for the lack of buzz, but your man insisted.”

I knew why, of course. “It’s fine. I’m buzzed already.”

She gave me a strange look, but said distractedly, “The food will be ready in about ten minutes, the cook said.”

“Perfect,” Rick said to her. “Thank you.”

I asked for a pen, which he had in the envelope, and I signed the lifestyle contract. The other one, I didn’t. “I don’t want your money.”

“You’re actually working for me, Kan! You clean, you cook, you look after the kids and all that may be part of living together, I realize that, but you’re also still doing your job with Chandler. I just do not want you leaving and feeling taken advantage of.”

“I don’t plan to leave, but if I did, I really don’t care about the money. I didn’t get help after Jeffery because he left me penniless. I asked for help to find a place to move.”

“I can see we’re at an impasse. We’ll talk about it another time. I don’t want to ruin our evening.”

I set a hand on the papers, finding it hard to think of what to say to it all. “I love you, Rick. I love that you want me to be cared for, even if we don’t work out. I do appreciate that. I swear, but…I have some pride. I had very little money when Jeffery and I broke up, but enough to move, and had a little until I found a job and stuff. I didn’t blame him for that. Eli went through something like that, where his former partner took full advantage of him.”

“I know. Burke told me. Why do you think this is so important to me? What happened with you and Jeffery, I get it. It was bad but it wasn’t the money. Let me care for you, Kanan. I’m rich, I’m in love, and all I want is to shower you with everything you could ever want.”

My voice was cracking from all the emotion, but I got out, “But, Rick, all I want is this to be…forever.”

“Me too, Kanan. That’s what I want.To live with you until I’m old and breathing my last, with you by my side.”
