“I didn’t say a bad word!”

“Naked!”

Chandler laughed and started to clean Colby, giving up on the napkin, picking him up, and carrying him to the sink. “We could go early; you know if you two wanted to…do whatever.”

“You’ll leave at five and no earlier.”

“Fine. Gawd.”

Rick winked at me, leaning closer to me to whisper, “Hope you’re ready for a night of interesting adventures.”

“We’re not going outside any more than to head to the guest house, right?”

“No, that’s all,” he said, laughing.

“Then I’m in.”

He fretted over the boys once they left, so I prodded him to start our night, but he just pleaded, “Once they get there, and they’re off that twisted highway.”

“Of course,” I gave him. “Anything I can do to prepare?”

Those fiery eyes that I’d seen so many times before we got together, officially showed and I felt my knees getting weak. “You know, be…clean.”

“I can do that now. That will give you enough time to make sure they get to their aunt’s and then I’m yours for the night.”

Rick wrapped me in his arms and purred, “You’re mine forever.”

“I am.”

I was kissed seductively before Rick set his forehead against mine. “I’m sorry for worrying like this. I swear it won’t be all night.”

“Of course, it will. I’m not angry about you worrying over the boys.”

His head moved back so he could look at me while a smile spread on his succulent lips. “You called them the boys.”

“I…yeah. Is that wrong?”

I was terrified, but he was smiling, and I saw tears welling in his eyes. “Not at all. It’s just…you usually call themmyboys.”

Not hearing the difference at first, I tilted my head before it came to me. “Oh. Well, they are your boys.”

“Yes, they are, but they are quickly becoming your boys too. If that doesn’t scare you too much.”

My mind was blank at first, then I thought of my conversation with Eli. “If you’re not scared, I’m not.”

“I am, but that’s part of it. Fear of losing this…wonderful thing I’ve found with you. But you being a huge part of the boys’ lives? I think they could only benefit from it.”

Suddenly, the fear subsided, and I felt my own hot tears, stinging my eyes. “I’m going to go get ready.”

“Kanan, I am truly, completely in love with you. I want you for the rest of my life, but that’s my wish. If you want something different, you have to tell me, but I have a feeling you don’t.”

“I don’t. I want this, and I want you and I want the boys…I want this life. I’ve been scared, that’s all.”

He took me to the sofa, and we sat together. He pulled me in close and asked, “Was that your errand yesterday? I noticed you left shaky, but you came home much calmer.”

“I went and spoke to Eli. Chandler said something about parents, Colby called me your husband. It freaked me out, but not because I’m scared of that. You have to believe me.”

“I do,” he said calmly. “Go on.”
