Ed is on edge. “We can ask you the same question. What are you doing in our home?”

“You’re lying,” she says, her eyes darting wildly between us three. “I’m calling the cops.”

“Go ahead and do just that,” Ed says calmly, crossing his arms over his chest. “They’ll come and arrest you.”

“You’re the ones breaking in,” she says desperately, grabbing the curtain to hold on for dear life.

“I don’t know what games you’re playing, but you’re the one who broke in,” Ed says. Ed is pretty scary, and he’s especially bad when his voice gets low like this.

The girl’s eyes widen further, if that’s even possible. She has huge doe-like eyes that reveal all her secrets. Her emotions are like the open pages of a book that flit across her face as her expression ranges from fear to anger to confusion.

“Your cabin that you put up on Airbnb,” she says.

“What?” Ed says.

“Airbnb, where you put up listings where guests can check in—” she begins.

“I know what Airbnb means,” Ed says. “We live up in the mountains, we aren’t complete savages.”

He then turns to Artie who’s frowning at the girl. “I thought you were supposed to take the post down months ago.”

“I did,” Artie says, scratching his head. “I called them and everything and asked them to take the listing down.” He takes his phone out and after a few minutes of scrolling, curses. “They didn’t.”

“Motherfuckers,” Ed says. “I’ll fucking kill them.”

Artie gives him a wary look. “Let’s not scare our guest any more than we already have.”

“She’s not our guest,” Ed mutters under his breath. “She’s a fucking intruder.”

“I didn’t ask for this. There’s obviously some—”

“GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE,” Ed yells, earning a flinch from the girl.

Artie blocks Ed’s way, shielding the girl with his body. “Brother, let’s not do this here,” he says, his gaze darting between the girl and Ed desperately. “Please.”

“I want her out of here. Period,” Ed says. “Get it done.”

With that, he turns on his heels and walks out.

“I’m sorry about my brother,” Artie says.

I’m slightly annoyed that he decided to change teams just because a pretty girl showed up. We’re always supposed to stick up for each other. That’s what Dad taught us.

“Ed isn’t used to having strangers in our home, that’s all,” I say, stepping forward. “And your presence was very unexpected.”

She nods, pushing her hair out of her face. “I get that.” Her hackles are no longer out. She believes us. She’s way too trusting; that can’t be good for her.

Artie holds out a hand to her, helping her out of the tub. She mutters a quiet “thanks” under her breath.

I wait till they exit the bathroom, watching her cute butt outlined against the towel. She looks so sexy wrapped in that itty-bitty thing, the curve of her breasts jutting out on the top, water running down her damp skin. I want to lick every inch of her, peel the towel off her and memorize her body.

Artie glares at me as he walks past. I raise a brow. As if he’s not having the very same thoughts as me. This chick is smoking hot, and she’s not one of those self-aware types either.

He pulls a t-shirt from his wardrobe. “Here,” he says. “You can wear this.”

“Thanks, I have my clothes in my suitcase,” the girl replies. “I didn’t even unpack. I swear I just arrived before you did.”

“Yeah,” I say drily, looking pointedly at the clothes strewn all over the bed. I almost want to tell her that I smelled her bra, see how she reacts to that.
