Sheriff Anthony’s voice came over the line. “Heard what happened out there, Nathan. Great instincts.”

“Thank you, sheriff.”

Damn. News travels fast with shifters.

“You’re welcome,” Anthony replied. Then, to Nathan’s surprise, his boss ordered, “Now go home. You have a mate to soothe.”

More than happy to do just that, Nathan agreed. “Thank you, sheriff.” Then he remembered the rest of Maddy’s report. “Oh, Larson was paying off realtor Whitney Risney in some way. Probably for information on where empty houses in the area were,” he guessed. “I don’t know if she knows about shifters, but she’s dirty.”

Anthony growled softly before saying, “Got it. We’ll take care of it on this end. Just get back to Khan for now. Your mate will need to see that you’re well after hearing about your encounter with a rogue.”

“Thanks again, Sheriff,” Nathan replied.

After handing Declan his phone, Nathan began jogging through the woods back to his cruiser. Parked next to his cruiser was Sam on his motorcycle. The beta held out a helmet while pointing to the sidecar.

“I’ll take you,” the beta stated.

Grinning, Nathan tucked the cruiser’s key back into the lock box, then joined the beta, happy for the ride.

A few minutes later, what was even better, was Khan standing on his porch, eagerly awaiting his arrival.

Nathan strode up his porch steps and swept Khan into his arms. His shifter jumped, wrapping his arms and legs around his waist. While noticing the sound of a few chuckles, Nathan ignored them.

Instead, Nathan carried Khan into their house. Having every intention of spending the evening expending his excess adrenaline by pounding his shifter into the mattress, he carried his mate into the bedroom. Nathan slowly lowered Khan to the bed, then followed him down.

Kissing Khan, Nathan basked in the knowledge that he and his wolf were right where they were meant to be.
