“You asked if there was anyone to watch out for, then you need to pay particular attention to this one,” I say, walking up to Chelsea, who grins at me playfully.

“Are you implying that I am a troublemaker, Mr Cambell?” she asks, placing her hand on her chest in mock surprise. I grin as I wrap an arm around her waist and pull her against me.

“No, I’m implying that if any harm comes to you on anyone’s shift, they will have the three of us to deal with,” I answer before looking at Rogers. “And by all three, I mean me, Logan and Calvin, so take that as your one and only warning.”

Chelsea rolls her eyes as she places a hand on my chest and looks at Rogers.

“Ignore him, you are not my personal bodyguard and will not be held accountable for anything that happens to me.” She looks back at me with an arched brow. “Will he,” she says in a tone that dares me to argue with her.

“Actually, Ma’am, no offence, but as scary as I’m sure you can be, I’m fully aware that my employers know several ways to kill me and make it look like an accident or get rid of my body so no one would ever find me. I think I will stick to what he said.”

“Right answer, Roger,” I answer, not taking my eyes from a smirking Chelsea. “Why don’t you go and get your lunch? I expect you back here in an hour to start shadowing,” I order, turning my attention to him. He nods once and places his Layard around his neck.

“Yes, Sir.” He turns and nods his head to Chelsea. “A pleasure to meet you, Ma’am.”

“The pleasure was all mine,” she mutters under her breath as she watches him leave.

“Excuse me, are the three of us not enough for you?” I ask as the door closes. Chelsea laughs out loud, grinning at me.

“I was teasing you,” she laughs, putting her arms around my neck. I hum deep in my chest, looking down into her beautiful blue eyes.

“I’ve missed you,” I whisper, kissing her lips.

“I’ve missed you too. Are you coming round for dinner tonight? Luna’s been asking where you were.”

I smile at the thought of that special little girl.

“I can do that. Want me to stay?” I ask, wiggling my eyebrows at her, which causes another bout of laughter. She nods before kissing me in a way that leaves no doubt in my mind that she knows exactly what I plan on doing to her tonight.

“Want me to cook.” she stops mid-sentence as her phone starts to ring. She pulls it from her jacket pocket and curses.

“Hi,” she answers as she steps out of my arms. I watch as her shoulders slump and her eyes close. “Okay, thanks for letting me know. I’ll get there as soon as I can … Okay, thanks, bye.” She hangs up the phone and curses under her breath.

“What’s happened? Everything okay?” I ask, placing a reassuring hand on her back. She shakes her head and looks up at the clock on the wall.

“That was the school, Luna’s been sick. I’ll have to go and get her, but I’m meant to be going to a meeting with Mr Young and recording the minutes,” she mutters as I can see her starting to panic. I take her hand and pull her into my arms.

“Let me call the guys. Between the three of us, we can collect her and take her home to rest. In fact,” I quickly look at my calendar on my phone and see that I don’t have anything other than paperwork planned for the rest of the day. “I can pick her up and get what I need to be done at yours whilst she sleeps or lies on the sofa.”

“You don’t have to do that? I can.”

I place a finger over her lips, stopping her, before taking her chin between my thumb and forefinger and tilting her head back so she is forced to look into my eyes.

“When we asked you to be in a relationship with us, that meant us taking on the responsibility of looking after Luna as well. Let us help you to take some of the pressure off. I know it’s a lot to ask, but it’s what we want to do.” I look into Chelsea's eyes and see the moment she realises I mean it. She nods before lifting up onto her tiptoes and pressing a kiss to my lips.

“Thank you. I will inform the school that you are collecting her and make sure your name is on the list of approved people she can leave with.”

I run my knuckles down her cheek, smiling at her.

“Add the guys too. That way, one of us can always pick her up, and you can stop using the after-school club that costs a fortune.” I lean in and kiss her hard on the lips whilst threading my fingers into her hair. “What’s the point in her having three stepdads if they can’t make sure there is always someone to pick her up from school?”

“I want to discuss it with her and then you all first. But I will add your names for now.”

I know I can’t ask for more than that. She is putting a lot of faith into us as it is when it comes to our relationship with her and her daughter.

“Okay, sweetheart. You call the school and let me know if I need to take any ID or anything with me. I’ll just let security know I’m leaving.” I kiss her again as she smiles at me.

“Thank you.”
