We all murmur “thank yous.” Charlie grabs my hand and drags me toward the bathroom.

“Chaz?”

“Bananas, bean.”

Is he serious? My exam’s in an hour. And Lords is a wooden door away.

But Gabe’s words about when I submit to my boys come back to me. It’s not just when it’s convenient, when it’s fun. So instead of protesting, I trot after Charlie. He turns on the shower, which will at least cover some of the noise we’re about to make. I strip down quickly and kneel on the bathroom rug.

“Good girl,” Charlie says, stroking my head. “I know we don’t have long. I just want to make sure you’re super relaxed going into your exam.”

“Yes, Charlie.”

“Come on, bean.” He helps me up and into the shower where he puts me back on my knees.

For the next twenty minutes I think of nothing but Charlie and the heat that builds between us and the way he controls that most primal thing, my breath, until he spills down my throat. He leaves me on simmer, with a big grin, as he shuts off the shower and helps me out so we can dry off.

“I want a dozen orgasms tonight,” I tell him.

He tweaks my nipple before he takes the towel from me and squeezes the water out of my hair. “You’ll get what we give you and if that’s just cuddles, you’ll take them and be grateful.”

I stick my tongue out at him and evade him neatly when he tries to pinch it.

“Go get dressed,” he tells me. “Scene’s over. Kick your exam’s arse. I know you’re going to own it.”

I give him a big hug before I wrap myself in the towel. “Love you, Chaz.”

“Love you, bean.” He seals it with a hot, open-mouthed kiss.

I pad into our bedroom to pull on my trackies—hell if I’m dressing up for an exam—and find Darwin sprawled on the bed. He’s dressed, but his arm is thrown over his eyes.

I climb onto the bed, not bothering to keep the towel closed, and lie down next to him. “Penny for them?”

“I want this so badly, teddy bear,” he whispers without moving his arm.

“This being?”

“Everything aboutthisright now. Us. Here. Bevington. Even our exams. I’m not scared of them. I want to do well, but for the first time, it’s for the right reasons. Not some academic flex. I want to do well because I want you to be proud of me. Because I want the future you’ve told me about. I want it all so much.”

He swallows hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing in the pale column of his throat.

“Hey.” I shift his arm and look down into his eyes. They’re glistening, his brows drawn down over them. “I am proud of you. Right now. Not because of whatever grades you get, but because of how hard you’re working. You’re earning it, Dar. My respect and love. My admiration. And whatever our future holds, it’s going to be amazing because we’ll be together.”

He nods.

“I love that it means this much to you.”

He stretches out his arm and curves me into his body, tucking my face into his neck. I curl over him and hold him tightly.

“Loyal wanted to speak with me before your duel,” he murmurs.

“Yeah, I wondered about that.”

“He offered me an out. He told me he’d take a fall if I agreed to break it off with you.”

“Your stepmum’s House really don’t want us together,” I say, seeing what was behind the slimy offers from both Loyal and Tyr.

“I told him no. I told him if he was ever my friend or ever wanted to be my friend in the future he should accept our relationship. Because I’m never letting you go. He said the choice would be taken away from me if I didn’t give in. That there were powerful people who would make sure we weren’t together.”
