“You never have to ask me to make you come.”

Her jaw drops. “That’s not what I meant.”

“That’s a shame.”

“I wanted to ask for some clothes,” she says. When I shake my head, she frowns at me. “Why not?”

“You know why. I told you to pack, and you refused. This is the consequence of your actions. Or inaction, to be exact. I don’t know how many times I have to prove to you that I mean what I say.”

Calista wrenches from my hold, her gaze narrowed and her chest heaving. The towel slides down an inch, and I follow the movement with my gaze. She hitches up the material with a huff when she notices my focus shift downward.

“You’re infuriating,” she says, anger brightening the hazel of her eyes. “This is completely unreasonable.”

I fold my arms. “Life is about choices. You’ve already made one, and now it’s time for another. It’s up to you whether you wear your pajamas every day or nothing at all. I suppose that towel is also an option.”

Her dainty nostrils flare right before she rips the material from her body. I blink in surprise. But also due to the vision that stands before me.

Seeing Calista naked would bring any man to his knees.

I pointedly look at the gauze covering her tattoo before meeting her gaze. It flares with the heat of her anger, and she lifts a brow. I see the challenge she’s thrown my way and nearly smile.

My little bird isn’t mentioning her tattoo on purpose. Interesting…

“You’re right,” she snaps. “I do have a choice.”

“I like this decision.”

She takes a step back, putting herself out of my reach. “I’ll bet you do. Is there any point in me sleeping in another room, or are you going to…”

“Pick the lock? Yes, I will. You’re sleeping with me. That’snota choice.”

“Figures.”

Calista simmers with fury. It’s in the way she yanks on the comforter and then the sheets. She punches the pillow several times while muttering to herself before settling on the mattress and covering her body from view.

I don’t bother hiding my grin. Her fiery spirit is one of the things that I love about her.

“Good night, Callie.”

“Go to hell, Hayden.”

She turns off the lamp, plunging the room into darkness, with my laughter echoing around us.

Chapter20

Calista

Revenge isa dish best served cold. And naked.

Unless you count a pearl necklace as attire, which I don’t.

After my conversation with Hayden last night, I came to a conclusion. If he feels the need to deny me clothes, then no clothes it is.

I don’t bother retrieving my pajama set from the dryer. Instead, I parade through the house the next day as if nothing is out of the ordinary, ignoring the elegant script on my hip.

“Morning,” I say, waltzing into the kitchen with my hair down.

Hayden pauses with his coffee mug halfway to his mouth. His gaze travels the length of my body in a slow perusal that has my skin pricking. By the time he returns his focus to my face, I feel like I’ve been caressed all over. I fight back a blush.
