Raising a brow, I said, “You’re not selling this job very well. If anything, you’re talking me out of it.”

“Miss Beck, you know that deep down inside, you will be haunted by the thought of turning down an opportunity to people.”

Damn it.

“Seems that I’m not the only person who is good at reading people,” I replied. He nodded and I continued. “I will admit that I’m intrigued.” Couldn’t believe I was about to say this. That bullet must’ve done more damage than Dr. Henderson said. “I’ll take the job. Now, how about those details?”

Damien smiled. “Good. You’ll be working closely with my younger brother Draven.”

“Here in Boston?” I asked.

“No. In Tabiq,” he said. I must’ve looked puzzled because he said, “Don’t worry, most people have never heard of it. But it’s on the other side of the world. A small tropical island.”

“And what will I be doing there?”Enjoying the beach?

“This is extremely confidential. No one, not even the FBI can know what we are doing there, understood?” His tone was firm, and his brows crossed.

“I think you know I can be trusted, otherwise you wouldn’t have offered me the job,” I stated.

“You mean, hired you,” he corrected. “Tabiq has endured several decades of human trafficking. The issue has been eradicated, but there are people who have not been located. We are trying to bring families back together.”

Wow. This wasn’t just an individual, this was an entire country he was speaking about. How was it that the US didn’t know about it?Does Brian know? He has to if he recommended me for this job.The FBI was full of secrets, and it appeared that so was Tabiq.

“When do I start?” I asked, finally admitting to myself that I was really accepting the position.

“The Henderson jet will be flying out in two days. Will that give you time to pack and prepare?”

Two days to prepare for a country that I had never heard of before? Normally I’d study their culture and language. Damien should understand that. “What can you tell me about the people, the country, and how I will be living while I’m there?”

“You will be staying at New Hope Resort. The Henderson family owns and operates it. The Tabiqian people are very private. Getting anyone to open up is very challenging. I would even say, almost impossible. But Draven has been working on breaking the ice. Having a woman assisting him will hopefully expedite the process. You will also be working closely with President O’Connor.”

“Directly with the president?”

“Yes. This initiative is very important to her. And without her support, it wouldn’t be possible. Anything else you need to know will be provided to you on the flight. There is a lot to learn, but you have a long flight ahead of you. Any other questions?” he asked.

We hadn’t spoken about compensation, but with such a high-level position, I wasn’t worried about it. “I’m sure there will be many, but for now, I have none.”

Damien got up and said, “Guess we should give Logan his office back. I’m headed for lunch with my wife, MaKayla. Would you like to join us?”

“No, I don’t want to intrude, Mr. Blaze,” I replied.

“Call me Damien and you won’t be intruding.”

“Then I would love to, and please, call me Kinsley.” I rose and followed him out of the office. Dr. Henderson was talking to his receptionist.

He turned to us and asked, smiling, “What is the verdict?”

I glared at him.Don’t look so smug.

Damien didn’t answer his question. “Thank you for letting me use the office.”

Dr. Henderson didn’t say another word, which told me that was all the answer he needed. If the Hendersons owned the resort in Tabiq, I was positive there wasn’t much that Logan didn’t know.

“Dr. Henderson, thank you again for everything you’ve done for me,” I said.

“I think you can call me Logan now, and you’re welcome. Remember what I said. Call me anytime,” he replied.

There was nothing left he could do for me. He’d fixed me up physically as much as he could and even lined me up for a job that I was looking forward to. Now all I had to do was deliver what everyone seemed to believe I could.
