Before I could argue with him, Reesa chimed in. “I agree with Draven. Whoever he is working with must have threatened the witness. Which means you could be in danger as well if you go.”

“If? I thought it was decided to let me try?” I reminded her.Great. Now I’m forgetting who I’m speaking to.“Please forgive my tone. It really was meant to be directed at Draven.”

Reesa nodded. “I understand how you feel. As a woman president, I have come across many who don’t give me credit for my ability. But I do not believe that is the reason behind Draven’s comment. Although he really should’ve used different words, what he was trying to say was that he cares and doesn’t want to see anything happen to you. I second that statement.”

I turned and looked at Draven. His eyes confirmed what Reesa said. “Sorry. I know you just want to have my back. And I appreciate it. But can we agree that you watch it from a distance? I mean, close enough that if you’re needed, you’re there, but far enough that they don’t know it?”

It was a compromise that seemed reasonable.

Draven nodded. “Any problem with that, Bennett?”

“No.”

“Then it’s settled. When can we do this?” I asked.

“The sooner we have the information, the better,” Bennett stated.

“I’m ready now, how about you?” I turned to ask Draven.

He looked at Bennett. “Do you have a spare gun on you that I can borrow?” He nodded and then said to me, “I’m ready too.”

I hadn’t even thought about the fact that Draven wasn’t carrying a weapon. I’d like to as well, but the truth was, I hadn’t held a gun since the day I got shot. I still have it, but it’s locked away.

It wasn’t long before we were back in the SUV and on our way to meet the witness. As I suspected it was a woman. When we were close, they got out of the SUV and let me drive the rest of the way.

I knocked on her door and when she opened it, I could sense the fear within her. “Hello, I’m Kinsley Beck. I was hoping we could talk for a minute.”

“What about?” she asked.

“You had seen a young girl get taken a few weeks ago. I was hoping you could tell me what you remember,” I said.

“Nothing. I don’t remember anything,” she said.

“Would you mind if I came and maybe we could talk?

“But I don’t remember anything,” she repeated.

“That’s okay. We can just talk,” I replied.

The woman looked around, then eventually nodded, and let me inside. This was a start. Once the door was shut, the woman seemed to relax slightly.

“Would you like some tea?” she asked.

“That would be nice, thank you.”

As she prepared the tea, I spoke about the lovely shops I visited, and how beautiful the beaches were. Eventually, she started to talk about her favorite spots in Tabiq.

“I love hiking. Bet the view of the ocean from up there is amazing,” I replied as she talked about the cliffs.

“Yes, it is. But I haven’t been back there for a few weeks,” she said.

I saw the look in her eyes. This was what I was waiting for. “Why not if it is your favorite spot?” She looked down at her cup of tea and said nothing. “Maybe you can bring me there if you don’t want to go alone,” I offered.

“I can’t go back there.”

“Why? Is that where you saw the girl get taken?” I asked, knowing the answer.

She nodded. “It was horrible.”
