The waitress placed a huge, covered platter in the center of the table. “What on earth did you order?” she asked.

The waitress lifted the steel dome and said, “Alaskan King Crab.”

The expression on Kinsley’s face was worth it. Her mouth wide open and her eyes trying to take it all in. When she looked at me, she asked, “This is for us to share, right?”

“Definitely. And if you’d like, I’ll even crack it and you can just dip the sweet morsels in butter and enjoy,” I offered.

Kinsley said, “That’s a lot of work. But if you really don’t mind, I’ll take a little bit of pampering tonight.”

I had meant it when I’d made the offer, but to actually hear her say that she’d let me do it, was a pleasant surprise. She and I seemed alike in a way, never wanting help. But the fact that she’d take mine said that we’d come a long way since day one.

I reached for the seafood cracker but she placed her hand on mine. “Changed your mind?” I asked.

She smiled. “No. But there is something you need first.” Kinsley got up from her seat and walked behind me. Then grabbed my linen napkin from the table and tied it around my neck like a baby’s bib. “Now you’re ready,” she snickered.

I couldn’t help but laugh. “I hope you’re wearing one of these too.”

Nodding, she tied her napkin around her neck as well before reaching out and snapping one of the crab legs off. Instantly juice splattered in her direction.

She took the corner of her napkin and wiped her cheek. “Maybe I should use the tablecloth,” she teased.

“You might regret agreeing to let me do this.” I began to crack the shells and pass her the meat.

I had no idea what I was thinking when I ordered this, but it was sweet torture. Kinsley would dip the meat in the melted butter before bringing it to her mouth and wrapping her tongue around it before taking a bite. I had no idea how good it tasted, but it was delicious watching her eat it.

When we were done, we got up and removed our bibs. She dabbed the corners of her mouth and said, “I probably taste like butter.”

Stepping forward I looked down at her. “If you don’t mind, I’d be happy to check and let you know.” She swallowed hard but didn’t break our eye contact. And I will take that as a yes.

I leaned over and the moment our lips made contact my body was filled with a rush of need. There was a lot more than just her lips I wanted to taste, but I needed to remain in control. Even this was unexpected, and if I wasn’t careful, it would never progress any further.

Slowly I traced her lips with my tongue, and she moaned. I wanted to pull her hard against me and kiss her deeply. I didn’t want to stop, but I needed to before this went too far.

Raising my head, I smiled down. “Butter? Not sure. But your lips, they are delicious.”

Kinsley blushed, and her eyes fluttered. No way could she be shy. She didn’t hold back when we spoke, and I’ve seen you stand up to Bennett. Hell, she held her own with Reesa and she was the president. Kinsley wasn’t just stunning, but she was one of the most confident women I’ve ever met.

She pulled away from me slightly and said, “How about we take a walk on the beach?”

“Sounds good. Did you want to bring the bottle of wine with us in case we get thirsty?” I suggested.

Kinsley nodded. “Why not? I mean, this is our night off. Might as well make the most of it.”

Was I reading too much into this? Could she be trying to let me know it’s okay for me to make a move? It wouldn’t be smart, but then again, I’d done plenty of stupid shit in my life. But I’d come to care for Kinsley in a way that I hadn’t quite figured out.

Grabbing the bottle of wine and two glasses with one hand, left my other free to hold hers. We both kicked off our shoes and headed towards a more secluded spot on the beach.

“Do you mind sitting on the sand? Forgot to grab a blanket,” I said.

“A little sand never killed anyone.” Chuckling, she said, “Well there was one case, but that’s confidential and I’d have to kill you if I told you.”

I laughed. “Please don’t. Because tonight I plan on winning the bet on how many shooting stars we see. I’m going with ten.”

Kinsley said, “Funny, because that is the exact number that we saw last night. What do you think the odds are that we will see the same amount two nights in a row?

“I’m very confident. If we see ten, then I will distract you so you can’t see any more,” I teased.

“Distract me? I don’t think so. For the record, I’m very competitive. I don’t plan on losing,” she stated firmly.
